Less than 24 hours after Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals took down the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, the team provided a fresh update on Kyler Murray’s status heading into Week 10.

What Happened to Kyler Murray?
During the Week 5 matchup against the Tennessee Titans, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a foot sprain. He finished the game but was noticeably limping late in the fourth quarter. The fact that he played through the injury gave fans reason to believe he would be ready for Week 6 against the Colts.
That optimism faded quickly. Murray logged just one limited practice on Friday before being ruled out for Week 6. Jacoby Brissett played well in relief, but the Cardinals fell to Indianapolis, 31-27.
Leading up to Week 7 against the Packers, Murray was limited in practice Wednesday through Friday but still wasn’t cleared to start. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on X that Murray would miss the game against Green Bay but was expected to return after Arizona’s Week 8 bye. Once again, Brissett filled in and kept the Cardinals competitive, though they lost 27-23.
After the bye, optimism returned. On October 30, Schefter shared a positive update suggesting Murray could be ready for the Cowboys game. But by Nov. 1, Schefter confirmed Brissett would start on Monday Night Football, with Murray only expected to have a “role.”
That didn’t happen. Murray was listed as inactive ahead of kickoff.
Brissett made the most of his opportunity, leading the Cardinals to a 27-17 primetime win over Dallas. During the broadcast, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman even said that Arizona should consider sticking with Brissett moving forward.
The Latest on Kyler Murray’s Status
On Tuesday, a more serious update surfaced.
According to Adam Schefter on X, Murray and the Cardinals consulted multiple doctors, who estimate his recovery timeline to be between four and eight weeks, with a high risk of setback if he returns too soon.
What once appeared to be a short-term injury has evolved into something far more serious. In fact, Schefter has already confirmed that Brissett will start in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Arizona Sports radio host John Gambadoro asked head coach Jonathan Gannon on Tuesday whether Brissett would remain the starter even if Murray were healthy.
Gannon’s response: “I like where we’re at right now with the offense moving forward.”
That comment, paired with Murray’s $46 million-per-year contract and ongoing injury concerns, raises legitimate questions about his long-term future in Arizona. With the trade deadline now passed, any potential move will have to wait until the offseason.
Long story short: Kyler Murray will not play in Week 10, and his return timetable is unclear. On Wednesday, the Cardinals added Murray to injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss a minimum of four games before he can return.
What to Expect from Jacoby Brissett
When Jacoby Brissett was announced as the Week 9 starter against Dallas, many fans speculated it was a quiet benching for Kyler Murray.
In three starts this season, Brissett has thrown for 320 yards and two touchdowns against Indianapolis, 279 yards and two scores against Green Bay, and 261 yards with three total touchdowns versus Dallas.
Despite a 1-2 record in those games, Brissett has brought stability to the Cardinals’ offense. More importantly, he’s built a strong rhythm with Trey McBride, who ranks eighth on PFSN’s NFL TE Impact Meter, and second-year wideout Marvin Harrison Jr., two connections Murray had struggled to establish this season.
If Brissett keeps performing at this level, Arizona may have no choice but to ride with him for the foreseeable future.
