The Los Angeles Chargers need a win on primetime to keep pace with the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. The Broncos have the Kansas City Chiefs up next on their schedule, which is never an easy task. This would give them a chance to move into a tie for the divisional lead if they hold on. But before the Chargers can look ahead, they must finish the Steelers on primetime.
During the game, though, Keenan Allen etched his name into the history books with the Chargers.
Keenan Allen’s New Franchise Record
Allen passed Hall of Famer Antonio Gates for the most receptions in Chargers history with a catch on Sunday Night Football.

Tonight’s franchise record will further cement his legacy among the Los Angeles faithful. The 33-year-old receiver caught a 12-yard reception in the first quarter against the Steelers to tie Gates. Then, in garbage time, he caught a flip pass from Herbert, which broke the franchise record.

Allen now has 956 receptions in 148 games, while it took Gates 236 games to reach 955 receptions. Although he isn’t the same player that he was a few years ago, he can still produce at a high level. Allen left in the 2024 offseason for greener pastures with Caleb Williams and the Bears. It turned out not to be as great as expected. Sometimes the only way forward is to go backward, and Allen returned home to his beloved Chargers for the 2025 season.
Allen is the 29th-ranked wide receiver in PFSN’s WR Impact score with a grade of 78.3. He is the highest-graded receiver in the Los Angeles receiving core, coming in just above Quentin Johnston and a considerable amount ahead of Ladd McConkey. The Chargers have other dynamic weapons on offense as well, with rookies Omarion Hampton and Oronde Gadsden II.
The Chargers took control of their primetime matchup against the Steelers in the fourth quarter. Pittsburgh couldn’t take care of the football, and the Chargers capitalized. With a big play to McConkey to set up a score, the Chargers extended their lead to three possessions.
Los Angeles has a few winnable games coming up against the struggling Jaguars and Raiders. If they can win these two, they will be staring at a 9-3 start and a chance to prove themselves as a true contender against the best of the best. The Chargers aren’t going down easy and are pressuring the Broncos for the divisional crown.
