Since August 2025, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and pop star Madison Beer have been dating, after being first seen together on the set of one of Beer’s music videos in Los Angeles. They publicly confirmed their relationship with a sideline kiss at SoFi Stadium before a Chargers game in October.
Now the Chargers star is back on camera, as Beer released the music video for “Lovergirl,” a bonus track from the deluxe edition of her third studio album Locket, on May 8. The video didn’t take long to reach the NFL world, and many shared their reactions.
Justin Herbert’s Appearance in Music Video Surprised Many
Star quarterbacks in the NFL are typically in the spotlight, but Herbert has consistently avoided attention throughout his career and isn’t often seen at public events like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow. As a result, his appearance in Beer’s music video surprised many. Here’s how the people on social media reacted:
Yahoo’s Matt Harmon pointed out how the Chargers quarterback has changed over the years: “2022 Justin Herbert to us on his guest episode of Ekeler’s Edge: “outside of football, I live a pretty boring life.” 2026 Justin Herbert: [reference to his role in the music video].”
“Justin Herbert willingly being near a camera? He LOVE loves her,” Brett Kollmann said about the Chargers star.

Like others, Steven Haglund was surprised when Herbert starred in the video with Beer. He wrote, “Would’ve placed the chances of seeing Justin Herbert in a music video at some point in his career at like -1,000,000% two years ago.
“Oh…he’s [Herbert] MAJORLY in love! I’d be surprised if they don’t get married at this point,” David Droegemeier wrote on X.
Apart from the positive reactions, some pointed out Herbert’s shortcomings in the playoffs and why this video will be brought up if the quarterback struggles in a big game.
“Call me crazy, but I like my coaches and QB’s concentrating on the weight room and studying game tape rather than making steamy music videos,” Dave Portnoy wrote on X. “But maybe that’s why we have 6 rings and were in the Super Bowl last year, and the Chargers can’t win a playoff game.”
“This is going triple platinum the moment he has a bad game,” another user added.

The jokes landed because Herbert’s postseason resume has been horrible so far. He’s 0-3 in the playoffs, and has had a historic 27-0 collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a four-interception disaster against the Houston Texans in the 2024 NFL season, and a 16-3 shutout loss to Drake Maye and the New England Patriots in the Wild Card round this past January, in which he managed to throw just 159 passing yards and took 6 sacks.
Herbert’s regular-season production has never been the issue, as he threw for 3,727 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2025 while rushing for a career-high 498 yards, all behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines. According to PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, he posted an impact score of 79.6 last season and ranked 11th in the league.
The Chargers brought in Mike McDaniel, the former Miami Dolphins head coach, as their new offensive coordinator this offseason. If McDaniel’s scheme achieves the efficiency that marked his most successful offenses in Miami, Herbert will have all the tools necessary to finally succeed in the postseason.
However, everything will depend on the health of the players around Herbert. If the Chargers have all their star players on the field, the 28-year-old quarterback has the ability to lead them to a Super Bowl.
