Joshua Palmer Injury Update: What’s the Latest on the Bills WR, and Will He Play in Week 9?

Joshua Palmer remains sidelined with knee and ankle injuries as the Buffalo Bills prepare for their critical Week 9 game against the Chiefs.

Joshua Palmer injured his ankle in the Buffalo Bills’ Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons. They then had their bye week before he was ruled out for last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

They were able to earn a victory without him last week, but are hoping to have him back ahead of an important Week 9 clash with the Kansas City Chiefs. His practice activity leading up to the game may give a better indication of his potential availability.

Joshua Palmer injury update and status for Week 9

Palmer was unable to practice at all last week before being officially ruled out for the Bills’ game against the Panthers. He is off to a similar start to Week 9 after being listed as a non-participant in Wednesday’s practice with knee and ankle injuries, according to Bills radio broadcaster Chris Brown.

He noted that the status update came from head coach Sean McDermott, who also said that DaQuan Jones and Ray Davis are also not practicing. This has apparently resulted in the Bills calling up a former wide receiver from their practice squad to join the offense.

“WR Gabe Davis has moved to active practice squad status and will practice today,” explained Brown.

The decision to elevate Gabe Davis is not a good sign for Palmer’s potential availability this week, especially considering he has yet to even practice in a limited fashion since his injury three weeks ago. Davis could theoretically replace him this week on their active roster, though Palmer has yet to be officially ruled out.

Defending NFL MVP Josh Allen has been working with a relatively weak group of wide receivers this year, according to PFSN’s Impact Rankings. Khalil Shakir is their only player ranked inside of the top 50 players for the position.

Palmer was added during the offseason to boost the Bills’ passing game potentially, but he has been disappointing in his new role. He has appeared in six games this year and has recorded 14 receptions on 20 targets for 234 yards. He has also failed to score a touchdown this season and is in danger of missing his second consecutive game.

The Bills have still been solid with a 5-2 record after ending their two-game losing streak by blowing out the Panthers by a 40-9 score last week. Their upcoming matchup against the surging Chiefs should be a much bigger challenge. The defending AFC champions have won five of their past six games, outscoring their opponents 89-24 during their current three-game winning streak.
