The Buffalo Bills had a clear goal heading into Monday Night Football in Week 6. After their first loss of the season came against the New England Patriots last week, they needed to steady their ship against the Atlanta Falcons in primetime action.
However, the first quarter did not go according to plan for them. Trailing 14-7, the defense looked porous as Michael Penix Jr. was able to move the ball at will against them.
Unfortunately, Josh Palmer’s injury early in the second quarter may have caused things to take a turn for the worse.
What Happened to Josh Palmer?
Brought in as an offseason addition to shore up a relatively average wide receiver core in Buffalo, Palmer had been a solid contributor through the first five weeks of his Bills tenure. Against the Falcons, though, he was off to an electric start.
Recording 60 yards on two catches, he was a major reason for the Bills having seven points on the board. However, his night may have come to an early end. As Mike Garofolo of the NFL Network reported immediately, “#Bills WR Josh Palmer injured after what looked like a textbook hip-drop tackle. No flag.”

He was immediately taken to the medical blue tent with what was initially diagnosed as a knee injury, and his status for the game remains unclear. Soon after exiting from the tent, fans could see Palmer warming up and jogging on the sidelines.
Unfortunately, that brief sigh of relief from Bills Mafia did not last too long. As the second half got underway, we got official confirmation from Buffalo’s PR team that announced his status as out for the rest of the game.
With the everyone eats mentality that the Bills have harbored through the first six weeks of the season, Palmer’s numbers weren’t otherworldly, as he stood at 174 receiving yards on 12 catches. However, his effectiveness was visible beyond the numbers, as he ranked 37th on PFSN’s WR Impact, second among all Buffalo receivers.
Palmer’s Fantasy Outlook
Palmer got some serious training camp hype, but it hadn’t materialized into in-season production. He entered tonight’s game without a starter-worthy fantasy performance since Week 1 and without a touchdown.
With Dalton Kincaid and Curtis Samuel out, there was a sense that Palmer would see increased usage. He was off to a great start before the injury.
Although Samuel isn’t a crucial part of the offense, he is one of their weekly active receivers. If Palmer cannot return, the Bills will have to feature Khalil Shakir even more, with the ineffective Keon Coleman locked down by A.J. Terrell.
