Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has missed some time due to injury, putting the Packers’ run attack in a bit of a pinch.
Jacobs has been one of the NFL’s most productive running backs, so not having him behind Packers quarterback Jordan Love has been tough. But there’s some good news on the Jacobs injury front.
Will Packers RB Josh Jacobs Be Back Soon?
Heading into Green Bay’s Thanksgiving Day showdown against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, the Packers have moved Jacobs off the injured reserve list. This means that Jacobs will be good to go on Thursday.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday that Jacobs was taken off the team’s injury report and will be on the field against the Lions. Jacobs has been dealing with knee and thigh injuries that have sidelined him from action. The Packers enter Thursday’s game with a 7-3-1 record in the 2025 NFL season.

According to the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics, Jacobs has an impact score of 79.5 and grades out at a C+. For the season, Jacobs has 169 carries for 648 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He’s averaging 3.8 yards per carry, which is a solid chunk of yardage when helping move Green Bay down the field on offense. He’s been involved in 64.8% of the Packers’ rushing plays this season, too. Those numbers probably look pretty good to Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur as well.
But Jacobs can also be a trustworthy receiving option out of the backfield. So far in the 2025 NFL season, Jacobs has 28 catches for 237 yards and no receiving touchdowns. Jacobs has been targeted 35 times, too, so he’s making the most of his pass-catching opportunities.
Jacobs was drafted out of Alabama in the first round (24th overall) by the then-Oakland Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft, then moved along with the franchise to Las Vegas in 2020.
While playing for the Crimson Tide under then-head coach Nick Saban, in three seasons in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Jacobs was part of the 2017 national championship team. He totaled 1,491 rushing yards and scored 16 touchdowns for Alabama, including 11 in his final season for the Crimson Tide in 2018. He also had one kickoff return for a touchdown in 2018.
But Jacobs has been primarily used at running back in his NFL career. Jacobs earned first-team All-Pro honors for his 2022 season with the Raiders, when he rushed for 1,653 yards and scored 12 touchdowns in 17 games.

He’s had four 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his NFL career, including 1,150 yards in his rookie season. Jacobs also finished second that season for Offensive Player of the Year honors.
Green Bay sure will be glad to see Jacobs in the backfield against the Lions.
