Bills Star Josh Allen Opens Up on ‘Painful’ Injury After Being Seen on Crutches

The Buffalo Bills suffered a heartbreaking loss in the Divisional Round, and it turns out Josh Allen has been dealing with an injury for a while now.

The Buffalo Bills saw their season end last weekend at the hands of the Denver Broncos. It was a disappointing end for a team that had Super Bowl aspirations, and head coach Sean McDermott was fired as a result.

On Thursday, the team held the introductory press conference for new head coach Joe Brady, but it was star quarterback Josh Allen who was the talk of the town. Allen showed up wearing a walking boot and using crutches, and the passer opened up about his injury.

Josh Allen Dealing With ‘Painful’ Injury Heading Into Offseason

Allen didn’t miss any time during the regular season or playoffs, so many didn’t even know the passer had an injury. That’s why fans were concerned seeing the quarterback show up on Thursday with crutches.

Allen said it was an old injury that was reaggravated against the Cleveland Browns in Week 16.

“Not an ideal situation, painful throughout the weeks,” Allen explained. The quarterback also stated that he would be healthy enough to play if the Bills had a game this weekend, and he will definitely be ready for OTAs.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport added that Allen underwent a procedure for a fifth metatarsal avulsion, and the expected recovery time is 8-10 weeks.

It’s definitely good news that Allen is expected to be ready for the offseason program. With a new coaching staff, the Bills are hoping to get back to contention in 2026.

Allen Had Another Elite Season Despite a Disappointing Ending

In 2025, Allen played in all 17 regular season games and threw for 3,668 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. PFSN’s NFL QB Impact Metric gave Allen an elite 90.0 grade, which ranked third out of 48 qualified passers.

Unfortunately, Allen’s heroics weren’t enough to get the Bills back to the Super Bowl. Against Denver in the Divisional Round, Allen threw for 283 yards and 3 touchdowns, but the Broncos still came away with a 33-30 overtime win.

It’s even more impressive to learn that Allen was dealing with an injury that entire time. Now, the quarterback will get healthy and try to lead the team all the way back in 2026, with new head coach Joe Brady, and undoubtedly some new weapons.
