Jonathan Mingo never caught more than 51 passes in a collegiate season, but his physical profile was enticing enough for the Carolina Panthers to use a second-round pick on him this April.
This offense is clearly a work in progress, but the team invested heavily in Mingo being a part of that progress, and that should keep him busy during his rookie season. Should fantasy football managers stash him entering into 2023?
FAKE BLOCK SLANT!
Next level route by Jonathan Mingo
Man coverage, DB’s eyes are locked on the WR. When Mingo fakes like he is blocking, the DB’s eyes go right to the backfield looking for the run. Mingo breaks to the slant. Creates a ton of separation. LOVE the creativity pic.twitter.com/NeMWk0sdB8

Jonathan Mingo’s Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season
The Panthers aren’t a fantasy-friendly environment behind a rookie quarterback, but that doesn’t mean you avoid them at all costs.
Miles Sanders was brought in from Philadelphia to give this team balance, and he should be able to do that coming off of a career year. Bryce Young is an encouraging prospect, but the pass catchers available to him are … underwhelming.
Veterans Adam Thielen and DJ Chark are in town to help stabilize this otherwise inexperienced set of receivers. Mingo’s size puts him in position to learn from Chark and potentially come into his own as the season wears on.
Terrace Marshall Jr., a second-rounder from 2021, also offers size, but with just 45 catches in 27 career games, he’ll open the season behind Mingo on the depth chart.
Is Mingo a Good Fantasy Pick?
Mingo is not for me. The physical tools are there, but he is being drafted in the same range as similarly gifted rookies in Rashee Rice and Jalin Hyatt — two receivers attached to offenses with much more upside.

I’m not against drafting players from bad teams; Mingo just isn’t the way I’ve been doing that this summer.
