The NFL Honors is currently underway, and with famous actor Jon Hamm hosting the awards, there was always going to be some jokes made throughout the night. When opening the event, Hamm went after many teams around the league, including the San Francisco 49ers.
Jon Hamm Pokes Fun at Conspiracy Theory Surrounding San Francisco 49ers
When talking about the 49ers, Hamm first took a shot at their major injury issues this season:
“San Francisco is the home of Christian McCaffrey’s team, the 49ers, a team I assume is named after the number of players currently on IR.”
He then went on to bring up the conspiracy theory surrounding the 49ers’ practice field:
“And I want to address a rumor going around about that. Some people were claiming that an electric substation here in San Francisco is responsible for the 49ers’ injury streak, and I want you to know this is an unfounded, ridiculous rumor. 49ers GM John Lynch is here, and he assures me there is nothing to worry about. Isn’t that right, John?”
He then points to a man in a hazmat suit.

If you do not know what Hamm is referring to, here is the conspiracy theory surrounding the 49ers. The 49ers’ practice is next to an electrical substation, and people on the internet theorized that this was causing all the injury issues San Francisco has been dealing with.
Although many believed this theory had some evidence to support it, members of the 49ers’ front office and staff denied all the claims. Even if it is proven untrue, there still needs to be a conversation about the injury issues.

In recent years, the 49ers have dealt with an unbelievable amount of injuries. Just this past season, QB Brock Purdy was in and out of the lineup, Nick Bosa tore his ACL and was ruled out for the season, TE George Kittle was injured late in the season and is expected to miss games next season, and Fred Warner was out for most of the season with his own season-ending injury.
The conspiracy theory may not be true, but there has to be something behind the 49ers’ injury luck (or lack thereof).
