With John Harbaugh officially coming to terms with the New York Giants, the team held an introductory press conference to welcome its new head coach. What Was the ‘Biggest Thing’ That Attracted John Harbaugh to The Giants’ Head Coaching Job?

Following Harbaugh’s introductory press conference, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan had the opportunity to speak with the new head coach “one-on-one.” Soon after, Raanan appeared on NFL Live, where he shared the question that Giants fans were dying to know: “What was it about this job that this was the place for him?”

Harbaugh replied, “The biggest thing was my dad liked the team.” The Super Bowl-winning head coach then added, “He liked what he saw on tape, so that made me feel good.” Harbaugh elaborated, stating, “the family, the organization, the people here… that’s the number one critical factor.”

Harbaugh’s initial comment was no gimmick either, as his father, Jack, played college football for multiple seasons and coached at the college level for decades. Jack also paved the way for his sons, John and Jim, to become great NFL head coaches.

Harbaugh’s second comment regarding organization and the people was significant as well. The New York Giants have a rich history, with proven ownership and a strong track record, winning four Super Bowls. The Giants have struggled to maintain the same stability in recent seasons, but with Harbaugh now at the helm, that could very well change.

Raanan followed up by asking, “How much of that was Jaxson Dart?… What did you see? What did you like?” Harbaugh quickly responded, emphasizing “The quarterback’s the biggest piece… You gotta have a quarterback.” Harbaugh then concluded, “The Giants have a quarterback,” validating Dart as a franchise cornerstone that he can work with. (Dart ranked 18th among all QBs according to PFSN’s Impact metric.)

Despite posting a 4-13 record in 2025, the Giants have evident talent on both sides of the ball. Dexter Lawrence, Abdul Carter, and Brian Burns make up one of the best pass-rushing units in the entire NFL. Malik Nabers is one of the most valuable WRs in the NFL, and Andrew Thomas is arguably the best blind-side protector in the entire sport.

Harbaugh has consistently elevated and developed talent during his tenure as a head coach. Now, a Giant, he will look to do the same with New York and turn them into the next NFL contender.
