Jets’ NFL Draft Scenarios: Can New York Land the No. 1 Overall Pick?

As the New York Jets watch their season fade, they may begin considering their chances of securing the overall No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

At this point in the 2025 NFL season, the New York Jets are simply playing out the string. With no playoff hopes remaining, the Jets have struggled for much of the year under head coach Aaron Glenn.

After Sunday’s home game, where the Jets lost 34-10 at MetLife Stadium to the Miami Dolphins, New York falls 3-10 overall, which means the Jets will not finish with a winning record. The loss also officially eliminated the Jets from playoff contention.

They’re 2-6 at home, 1-4 on the road, and haven’t won a divisional game all season. New York opened the year with seven straight losses before winning two in a row.

But the Jets have now dropped three of their past four games. What, though, do the Jets have left to play for at this point? There’s still the possibility of landing the NFL No. 1 draft pick.

Will the Jets Be in Position for the No. 1 Pick in the 2026 NFL Draft?

Tyrod Taylor was the Jets’ starting quarterback after taking over for Justin Fields, who is also dealing with a knee injury. Unfortunately, he also suffered an injury in Week 14 and was replaced by Brady Cook.

Given the Jets’ current position, the one thing the franchise might be in contention for is the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The PFSN NFL Playoff Predictor estimates how the season could unfold for the entire league while factoring in strength of schedule.

According to PFSN data, after the loss, the Jets have a 6.20% chance of earning the top draft pick and a 15.2% chance of earning a top-two pick. What has the Jets’ offense been doing this season? According to the PFSN NFL Offense Impact metrics, New York has an impact score of 64.0, which grades out as a D.

Linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball and cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. were back for Sunday’s matchup against the Dolphins. Even with those players returning, the Jets really have only one thing to play for this season.

Simply put, if the Jets lose out, their chances of securing the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft increase. But every NFL team wants to go out and perform at its best. Jets fans watched to see if their team could do that on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, but it didn’t turn out that way, resulting in a loss.

Here are the rest of the Jets’ opponents this season:

Week 15: Jets at Jaguars
Week 16: Jets at Saints
Week 17: Jets vs. Patriots
Week 18: Jets at Bills

Three of those four teams are currently positioned to reach the NFL postseason. So, it would take a Herculean effort for the Jets to even consider winning out.
