New year, same old New York Jets. After the disastrous tenure with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback, the team was hoping for a new beginning, changing their head coach and quarterback. Bringing in Justin Fields on a rental deal, they also signed Aaron Glenn to be the franchise’s new head coach. However, his tenure has gotten off to a poor start.
Going 0-4 through the first four weeks of the year, the team appears well on its way to dropping its fifth game against the Dallas Cowboys. The toll for this start has fallen squarely on one man, with the rowdy fan base in New York already calling for the team to move on from Glenn.

Is Aaron Glenn the Problem for the Jets?
Glenn earned his stripes as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Cleveland Browns before being elevated to the defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints.
Spending five years with the Saints, he honed his craft before earning the defensive coordinator role for the Detroit Lions.
When he came in, the team ranked 30th on PFSN’s Defense Impact in 2021. However, by the end of his tenure, they were a top-five defense in the league.
As a result, he felt like a no-brainer for the head coaching job in New York, especially for a team that wanted to establish a new culture. Unfortunately, his run with the Jets hasn’t gone even remotely according to plan.
Not only is the team likely starting the season 0-5, but their defense has been a major source of concern as well. Ranking 25th in the league, their number is sure to drop after a demoralizing performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5.
Down 23-3 at halftime, the going doesn’t look like it’ll get much easier for New York. But the fan base is already done with their new head coach. As one fan put it plainly, “New York Jets. Fire Aaron Glenn,” before adding a cheeky hashtag, “#0-17”

Others, who were more upset, offered a comprehensive breakdown of why they wanted Glenn gone. “I want Aaron Glenn fired. Don’t give a s**t its 5 games. He has NO CLUE what he’s doing. His defense is the worst in the NFL by fire. Team is the most embarrassing in the NFL. And he’s supposed to build a culture? Fired.”
How does Aaron Glenn survive this season? The Jets are getting worse by the week. He’s a defensive coach and the defense is awful. Etc …

The situation was made worse by the state of the offensive line for Dallas, which was missing four starters. As a result, some fans went to extremes to make their case, stating, “This was an unfathomable hire as head coach. A less-than-ripe cantaloupe would have been a better choice for the Jets. Fire Aaron Glenn now.”

Other fans did not want to waste a single day with their new head coach in charge, claiming, “Is there any chance we fire aaron glenn tn? Id glady lose by 80 if it means he doesnt coach another game.”
One fan went through the effort of offering a solution to what the immediate aftermath of his firing could look like. As he explained, “Fire Glenn, see what you have in Engstrand, try and trade for Mac Jones , and hope he serves as a Pennington or Alex Smith-esque bridge QB. Aaron Glenn was not a good DC and he was not a good HC hire.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that any significant changes are forthcoming to New York immediately. The possibility of the season going awry was always in the cards, with the contract for Fields allowing the team to move on from him after this season, potentially with a high draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
As he shapes the team to his mold in a year’s time, a clearer idea of how Glenn will fare as a head coach can be made. Until then, it might be a few more frustrating weeks for the New York faithful, as the team battles through this rough stretch.
