Ravens HC Jesse Minter Admits He’s ‘Disappointed’ by Collapsed Maxx Crosby Trade

Jesse Minter admits he is disappointed after the Baltimore Ravens' blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby failed this offseason.

The Baltimore Ravens recently hired Jesse Minter to take over as the team’s new head coach. The franchise also made a blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby during the offseason, but the deal fell through following a failed physical. Minter, the former defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, expressed his disappointment with the situation during a press conference on Tuesday.

Jesse Minter Responds to Ravens’ Failed Trade for Maxx Crosby

The Las Vegas Raiders originally agreed to send Crosby to Baltimore on March 6, but the deal was rescinded four days later after he reportedly failed a physical examination. Minter previously served as the Chargers’ defensive coordinator, so adding one of the best defenders in the NFL was likely a move he strongly supported.

The new head coach was asked about the situation and admitted he was disappointed in the outcome. The failed trade forced the organization to go in a different direction when building out its defense, though it wasn’t the first option, as they had pursued the trade prior to making a move in free agency.

“So much respect for Maxx, we were obviously excited about it, and then disappointed about it. I’m not going to speak to many of the details about it, but tons of respect for him as a player, and the Raiders as an organization,” stated Minter.

Crosby has finished among the top two edge players in PFSN’s Impact Rankings in four of the past five seasons, demonstrating his elite dominance on the field.

He has maintained that production in Las Vegas on a relatively weak roster, so joining a contending team like the Ravens could have potentially elevated his impact. Pairing him with a defensive-minded head coach further supports this theory.

Minter explained that the team was excited to pull off the trade to acquire him, only to be let down when the deal ultimately collapsed. While some believe Crosby will still be traded eventually, the Raiders will likely have to find another partner, as Baltimore already secured a legitimate replacement.

The Ravens signed Trey Hendrickson in free agency shortly after the collapsed trade. While Hendrickson isn’t quite on the same level as Crosby, Minter still landed a former All-Pro to upgrade the edge of his defense in Baltimore.

Hendrickson was also considered by most to be the best pass rusher available this year after he was unable to come to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals on a long-term contract.
