Justin Jefferson’s 2025 season didn’t exactly go as planned. The Minnesota Vikings star battled through quarterback uncertainty and a rocky offense, posting career lows in yards per game, yards per reception, and touchdowns. Still, even in a down year, Jefferson’s talent is undeniable.
He’s a matchup nightmare, capable of stretching the field, catching in traffic, and making defenders look silly. The NFL world knows it, and so does one of the greatest ever.
Jerry Rice Names Justin Jefferson the NFL’s Top Receiver
Even after a tough campaign, Jefferson’s stock remains sky-high. With six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons under his belt and a record-breaking start to his career, the Vikings WR continues to cement himself as one of the elite playmakers in football today. And while others flashed in the 2025 playoffs, a legend’s vote keeps Jefferson at the very top of the list.
On Wednesday, legendary Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice joined “The Rich Eisen Show” and didn’t hesitate when asked who he thinks is currently the league’s best wide receiver. His pick will make Vikings fans smile after a frustrating season.
“I still gotta go with Justin Jefferson. Even though he hasn’t had a quarterback, this guy can do it all. He can stretch the field. He can out jump you. He’s not afraid to go across the middle,” Rice said. “There are some great receivers out there but I would still put him as No. 1.”

Rice’s endorsement carries weight. The NFC Championship Game delivered a spectacle between Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Puka Nacua, combining for 318 yards and two touchdowns.
Rice still sees Jefferson as the premier talent. Despite JJ McCarthy’s struggles as the Vikings’ starter, Jefferson hauled in 84 catches for 1,048 yards, marking his sixth straight 1,000-yard season.
Even with his 2025 career lows, he now holds the record for most receiving yards in a player’s first six seasons, surpassing Rice himself. The Vikings finished the season with a PFSN NFL Offense Impact score of 66.0, ranking 28th in the league.

The debate over the top receiver in the NFL isn’t easy. Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase earned first-team All-Pro honors, racking up 1,412 yards and finishing fourth in the league. But Rice’s pick speaks volumes. He knows what elite talent looks like, and Jefferson’s ability to shine regardless of surrounding circumstances sets him apart.
Vikings fans can breathe a little easier. Jefferson isn’t just a star. According to the greatest wide receiver of all time, he’s the best in the game today.
