Heading into training camp, no team has more uncertainty surrounding its starting quarterback situation than the Cleveland Browns. There is an open competition between four quarterbacks that will be decided between training camp and the NFL preseason. While there are favorites, surprises could happen.
Cleveland’s offense has undergone major changes in recent years and is now in the middle of a rebuild. Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who arrived via trade last season from the Denver Broncos and was one of the bright spots of the unit in 2025, commented on the competition between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders.
Jerry Jeudy Weights In On Browns’ QB Battle
In the 2025 offseason, the Browns decided to hit the brakes and begin an offensive rebuild. The Deshaun Watson project was a failure and, with that in mind, the franchise brought in four quarterbacks to compete for the starting job. Currently, Flacco is the favorite, given his experience in this system, in which he played in 2023, but any of the other three could surprise and win the job.

This is a situation that Jeudy has experienced before. He arrived in Cleveland during the 2024 offseason and had a breakout year despite playing with four different quarterbacks throughout the season. He spoke to ESPN about how he views this competition in 2025 and his role in this situation as a receiver.
“It is pretty difficult because you want to always build that relationship with a quarterback and have that consistency throughout the years,” Jeudy said. “But as a receiver going through that, you just got to keep working and you got to learn how to adjust no matter what.
“Some situations ain’t going to go as planned, so you just got to figure out how to just keep going and stay on the right path,” Jeudy said.
During his time with the Broncos, Jeudy struggled to stand out and dealt with injuries, playing all 16 games in just one season – his rookie year in 2020. However, after Amari Cooper’s departure, the path was cleared for Jeudy to become the focal point of Cleveland’s passing attack. He totaled 1,229 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Jeudy’s presence is crucial for any of the quarterbacks in the competition. He enters his sixth season as the team’s top receiving option and has the ability to elevate whoever wins the starting job. While the one-dimensional nature of Cleveland’s offense is likely to limit the team to a losing record in 2025, there’s still room to build something promising for the future.
The Browns are projected to win just three games in 2025, which wouldn’t be entirely unexpected given the franchise’s rebuilding phase and the fact that the team holds two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The decision on who will start at quarterback is expected soon and should give Browns fans a clearer picture of what to expect from the team this season.
