‘Pathetic’ — NFL Analyst Catches Heat From Commanders Fans For 4-Word Shot At Jayden Daniels’ Mother Regina

An NFL analyst has come under fire from Washington Commanders fans for a social media post where he took a shot at Jayden Daniels' mom, Regina Jackson.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels took the NFL by storm during his rookie season in 2024. The second overall pick by the Washington Commanders took NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors for getting the once floundering team to the conference championship game, where they lost to the ultimate Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles.

As one of the league’s rising stars, Daniels is under even more scrutiny than other players. However, he is getting attention for a relationship that has no bearing on his on-field performance, the one with his mother, Regina Jackson.

Why Did Social Media Explode After Regina Jackson Had An On-Air Moment With Her Son Jayden Daniels?

Daniels and his mother have an extremely close bond. He calls her his biggest supporter as well as his trusted advisor. While Daniels doesn’t mind being called a “mama’s boy,” Jackson’s involvement in Daniels’ career has earned them a lot of pushback.

Most players have guidance from their parents when they are younger. But with the new NIL deals and the increasing celebrity of college players, they generally hand that responsibility off to a professional agent. Jackson chose to go to school to learn to become a sports agent so she could continue to help Daniels.

It’s important to note that Jackson is not Daniels’ agent. He is officially represented by Agency 1 Sports, by Ira Turner, Rob Butler, Aston Wilson, and Stanley Bien-Aime. However, his mother acts as his business manager and openly consults on his career.

Recently, Daniels was interviewed on “Inside Training Camp Live,” where he called his mother over from the side and joked about how he still has to listen to what she says. That comment got a big reaction from fans on social media, but the comment of one NFL analyst drew outrage.

Trey Wingo said, “She needs a hobby” after the video was sent out on X. Wingo is an NFL analyst who worked for ESPN for about 20 years, until 2020..

His comment drew the ire of fans, who shifted gears from calling Daniels a “mama’s boy” to defending his touching relationship with his mother.

One fan said, “This is slightly out of line. (Idk if you’re joking but if you are not…)”

Another defended the fact that Jackson is hoping to set Daniels up for long-term success. “Her hobby is making sure her son doesn’t leave the league broke like most Don [sic].”

“A mother’s struggle to make her son successful,” posted yet another fan who defended Jackson.

Many of those who took the side of Jackson seemed to be able to connect with the plight of a mother and her child. “Looking out for your kids well being is a parents hobby.”

Others were more direct and critical of Wingo, “Lame comment, Trey.”

“Her hobby is running her son’s finances. She’s an involved mother and it’s a hell of a lot better than an absentee parent. Pathetic Trey. Pathetic,” said another fan who lashed out at Wingo.

However, Wingo did have his defenders. There are fans who feel that at 24 years of age, Daniels is a grown man who needs to be handling his own career and money.

“I’m with you, I like the support, but there comes a point where you don’t need to constantly be seen,” wrote one fan who at least partially agrees with Wingo.

The notion that Jackson is a bit of a helicopter mom isn’t new. While most fans applaud their close relationship, many think it goes a bit overboard, like this fan, “It’s a little weird at this point.”

And this poster argues that mom needs to take a backseat now and let Daniels live. “Yeah, she’s a lot really .. this is his career not hers. She’s the poster woman for helicopter mom.”

While the fanbase might continue to be divided over Jackson, no one is divided over just how high hopes are for Daniels’ sophomore season. Commanders fans have hope for a Super Bowl run for the first time in decades.
