With the addition of John Harbaugh this offseason, the New York Giants fans have a lot to look forward to, especially after the promising play of quarterback Jaxson Dart during his rookie season.
However, Dart was recently seen online riding a mechanical bull at a bar, prompting criticism from a former NFL General Manager.
Former NFL GM Scrutinizes Jaxson Dart for Mechanical Bull Ride
This morning on “Get Up” by ESPN, Dan Graziano, Domonique Foxworth, Joe Fortenbaugh, and Mike Tannebaum discussed the latest storylines in the NFL, with one of them being about Dart and the mechanical bull.
While the others played it off as fun, the former general manager, Tannebaum, didn’t feel the same way and was actually opposed to what Dart did. On the ESPN program, he said the following:
“The question is, what good comes out of this? Could we find some fun in some other way?”
Tannebaum has held numerous roles in the NFL and several in sports, but he’s most notably known for his roles with the New York Jets as their Executive Vice President and General Manager (2006-2012), as well as the Miami Dolphins as their Vice President of Football Operations (2015-2018).

Tannebaum is right in a sense; either way, what good comes out of Dart riding a mechanical bull? The ride only ends when you fall off, so what happens if he gets injured as he falls on the padding? The likelihood is low, but he could land awkwardly on his upper body or lower body and then suffer a significant injury.
This sentiment is only exaggerated by the fact that Dart had some trouble this past season with putting himself in danger, especially regarding concussions. Over the span of 10 games, he was examined for a concussion five times. He even missed two games with an actual concussion.
In his rookie season, the former Ole Miss quarterback showed that he has the tools to be a franchise quarterback. In 14 games, he finished with a completion percentage of 63.7%, 2272 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions. Additionally, he carried the ball 86 times for 487 rushing yards and a whopping 9 rushing touchdowns.

In PFSN’s Quarterback Impact Metric, he ranked as the 18th-best quarterback in the league with an impact score of 76.5 and a letter grade of C, which ranked him better than veterans such as Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, and Tua Tagovailoa.
There’s no doubt that Dart needs to be safer with his body going forward, especially in the NFL context. But when it comes to riding a mechanical bull with a padded landing, what are the odds that he actually gets hurt?
