Jaxson Dart is coming off a promising rookie season with the New York Giants. He will be looking to take another step forward in year two, especially since they hired John Harbaugh as their new head coach. The quarterback recently commented on their expectations ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
Jaxson Dart Discusses Expectations After the Giants Hired John Harbaugh
Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens parted ways after nearly two decades of success, including a Super Bowl title and years as annual playoff contenders. He immediately became a coveted target by several teams during the offseason, but he ultimately chose the Giants.
Dart played a role in his decision to go to New York, as he is one of the most exciting prospects in the NFL. The quarterback recently discussed his feelings about them hiring Harbaugh as their next head coach to replace Brian Daboll during an interview with ESPN.
“When Coach Harbaugh’s name came up, that was the one that we were all really, really excited about and wanted to have. So I think from just our standpoint, the guys just can’t wait to play for him and have the chance to get coached by him,” explained Dart.
Harbaugh will replace Daboll, who essentially went downhill after an encouraging start to his career with the Giants. He won the Coach of the Year award and helped them to win a playoff game when he first arrived, but New York has been one of the worst teams in the NFL since then.
They hope that upgrading their head coach will get things back on the right track. Dart discussed their expectations for the future in an interview with Jordan Raanan following the hire.
“Winning. A whole lot of winning. That’s it. He’s always put his team in really good situations to win. So that’s a coach that I really want to play for,” stated Dart.
The Giants struggled to a disappointing 4-13 record in the 2025 NFL season, despite the promising campaign for their standout rookie quarterback. He finished 18th among all quarterbacks in PFSN’s QB Impact Metric for the season and also ranked inside the top ten in the weekly rankings in six of his 12 starts overall.
They obviously have their sights set on bigger things starting in 2026, and based on Harbaugh’s decision to join the Giants amid reported interest from several teams, the head coach believes in the direction of the franchise. Their expectations have grown since his arrival, so the pressure could be on to turn things around quickly.
