Is Jaxon Smith-Njigba Injured? A Look at the Seahawks Star’s Status Amid Slow Start in Week 16 vs. Rams

Trying to gain a serious advantage in the race to the one-seed, the Seattle Seahawks did not get a great first half from Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The Seattle Seahawks are facing the Los Angeles Rams to open Week 16 in a Thursday Night Football encounter in what might be one of the biggest games of the season. Two teams with a legitimate shot of becoming the one-seed in the NFC are battling for all the marbles.

Last time around, it was a dreadful offensive performance from the Seahawks that severely limited their chances of a win. This time around, they were hoping for a better showing to win the division. Unfortunately, their best player on offense, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, wasn’t able to give them much juice in the first half.

What Happened to Jaxon Smith-Njigba?

With Seattle trailing 13-7 at the end of the first half, it was a rough go for the superstar wide receiver, who has arguably been the best player at his position throughout the season. On pace to become the first player to cross 2,000 yards, he’s cooled down a little bit.

However, there is still a good possibility that he ends up reaching the top-3 receiving yards in a season list of all-time by the end of the year. Against the Rams, though, his production was virtually nonexistent.

Targeted just one time on a very run-heavy offense for the Seahawks, he could not haul in a single catch, ending up with 0 receiving yards to his tally for a passing offense that had eight total dropbacks for 72 passing yards, including two sacks that cost them nine yards.

To make matters worse, a critical fumble from Cooper Kupp in the final minute was a major miscue from Seattle, as it hampered a solid drive that could have helped them trim the lead going into the halftime break.

Ranking second on PFSN’s WR Impact, he has been a force to reckon with all season long. Apart from two games all season, Njigba has had 92 or more receiving yards every time he’s taken the field.

That has amounted to a mind-boggling season total of 1,541 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, as he’s become the engine of an offense that ranks among the bottom of the league in passing attempts.

As a result, he’s played a big part in the success of the franchise as a whole, as they sit at 11-3 with a legitimate chance of capturing the one-seed with just two games remaining on the schedule after this one.
