The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten off to a slow start this season, and that has been a surprise to many. They began the year 0-2; however, they have won their last two games and now sit at .500. You can point to a few reasons as to why the Chiefs have struggled, but one of the clear ones is the offensive line.
Not only has the Chiefs’ offensive line struggled to protect Patrick Mahomes, but one particular lineman in particular has committed too many penalties. Jawaan Taylor is the Chiefs’ right tackle, and he has had a rough start to the season. Although off the field, he recently experienced one of the great thrills by getting engaged.
Jawaan Taylor Engagement Inspires Jokes From Fans
While Taylor’s engagement is a fantastic moment for him, the photo of him proposing opened him up to getting roasted by some Chiefs fans. One of the comments came from a Twitter user who read, “He definitely stood up before she answered.”

That was in reference to all the false start penalties that Taylor committed over his time with the Chiefs. So far this season, according to NFL Penalties, Taylor has committed seven penalties across four games. Two of the seven have been false starts.
Last season, Taylor struggled as well. He committed 19 penalties, including seven false starts. It is hard to be successful as an offense when the linemen are committing that many penalties. Taylor has not been impactful this season, grading out a D+ and 69.2 OL Impact Score on PFSN.
According to Pro Football Focus, Taylor has been one of the worst offensive linemen in football this season. He ranks 95th of 109 offensive tackles with a grade of 45. If he is ineffective as a blocker and commits penalties, the Chiefs may need to look for an alternative.
Chiefs Hoping to Turn Their Season Around
The Chiefs’ Week 4 win over the Baltimore Ravens is one they hope can spark their season. They were clicking on all cylinders that game, and dominated a talented Ravens team 37-20. It was the first time this season the Chiefs looked like a Super Bowl-contending team.
However, the next two games will be challenging for the Chiefs. They travel to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football and host the Detroit Lions the following week. Both offer different issues for the Chiefs, and it will be interesting to see how they respond.
