The Minnesota Vikings made an important free-agency signing on Thursday, adding wide receiver Jauan Jennings to the roster to further improve a receiving group that already features Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
Jennings signed a one-year, $8 million deal that could be worth as much as $13 million with incentives. The news prompted plenty of strong reactions from the NFL world.
NFL World Reacts Positively to Minnesota Signing Jauan Jennings
Jennings’ free agency was curious. The wide receiver had one of the best years of his career in 2025 with the San Francisco 49ers, totaling 9 receiving touchdowns. He reportedly wanted $20 million from the Niners, but San Francisco opted to revamp their wide receiver room with Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling instead.
Jennings is a talented player, and the NFL world was impressed that the Vikings were able to add him on a bargain, $8 million contract.
“That’s a steal, wow,” one influencer wrote. “Thought he’d be a Raider.”

David Lombardi, a 49ers beat reporter who currently works for The SF Standard, explained why it took nearly two months for Jennings to sign.
“At long last, this wait is over,” Lombardi wrote. “Jauan Jennings wanted $20m+ from the 49ers, never saw his market materialize into that, and ends up signing a smaller deal in Minnesota. A good half decade in SF for JJ. Rookie #15 De’Zhaun Stribling takes his spot.”

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald had previously reported that the Miami Dolphins expressed interest in Jennings, but they didn’t have the money to land him.
“Dolphins liked him but couldn’t compete financially with their cap situation,” Jackson said.
Field Yates of ESPN discussed Jennings’ fit in Minnesota and how it helps the team from a depth perspective. Even with Jefferson and Addison on the roster, they needed more bodies to help Kyler Murray.
“Minnesota’s need for a third WR is filled by 3rd & Jauan. A clutch player for the Niners for many years finds a new home,” wrote Yates.

Matt Harmon, an analyst for Yahoo Sports who specializes in analyzing wide receivers, believes that Jennings fits well on Kevin O’Connell’s team.
“Makes sense for both sides. Jennings gets a shot at playing as a WR3 in what should be a good offense and I know that the Vikings have been searching for a WR of his type (big slot, blocker) for a while,” he said.

Jennings finished the 2025 season with 643 yards and 9 touchdowns, earning a 71.1 grade in PFSN’s WR Impact Score, which ranked 77th in the NFL.
While he won’t be a top option on the Vikings, he could prove to be a valuable piece for Kyler Murray, and he should benefit the attention that Jefferson and Addison attract and be able to take advantage of some easier CB matchups.
