Jameis Winston is on his fourth NFL team after signing a free agent contract with the New York Giants, and this time around, he’ll be competing with Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson for the starting quarterback gig.
Long known as fierce competitors and team leaders, both signal-callers should be offered a fair chance at winning the QB1 job out of training camp.
As such, it should be no surprise to football fans that Winston is taking his offseason training seriously, deploying some unusual methods to prepare for the upcoming campaign.
Giants QB Jameis Winston’s Offseason Workout Program Goes Viral
The Giants are in a unique position with both Wilson and Winston on the roster, as the team doesn’t necessarily have to take a quarterback prospect with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft thanks to the presence of the stopgap veterans.
Unlike Wilson, who signed a one-year deal, Winston agreed to a two-year contract, meaning his stay in New York will extend beyond just the 2025 season. If the Giants don’t draft a quarterback, he’ll be the only quarterback under contract for 2026.
It’s clear Winston is taking that opportunity to heart this summer, and his typically unconventional training regimen has once again surfaced online as the affable quarterback prepares to potentially take control of Brian Daboll’s offense.

Winston started seven games for the Cleveland Browns in 2024, putting together a stat line only he could: 2,121 passing yards on a 61.1% completion rate, with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He remains just five seasons removed from his infamous 30-30 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Wilson, meanwhile, led the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs last season, though they fell flat against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC wild-card round. Over the past two seasons with the Denver Broncos and Steelers, Wilson has started 26 games, throwing for 5,552 yards and 42 touchdowns with just 13 interceptions.
According to PFSN’s QB+ metric, Wilson finished the 2024 season as the league’s 17th-best quarterback with a 75.3 grade. Winston graded out lower, finishing 29th with a 65.7.
The two actually have a relationship that spans back several years, and given that both quarterbacks are on the wrong side of 30, the competition shouldn’t feature any animosity. Both have been around the league long enough to understand whatever decision the coaching staff makes.
Of course, if the Giants do select Shedeur Sanders or another top quarterback prospect in the early rounds of the draft, the dynamic will change, with both Winston and Wilson likely needing to serve as mentors to the rookie.
Regardless of how draft night plays out, though, it’s clear Winston isn’t taking any chances. He looks ready to go for his eighth NFL season.
