Russell Wilson has become quite the NFL journeyman, and the veteran quarterback will be playing for his fourth team in five seasons in 2025 after signing a one-year deal with the New York Giants.
The one-time Super Bowl champion hasn’t been quite the same player since his Seattle Seahawks days, though he did earn a Pro Bowl nod in his lone season with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year.
In the last two seasons with the Denver Broncos and Steelers, Wilson has started 26 games, throwing for 5,552 yards and 42 touchdowns against just 13 interceptions. At 36 years old, he isn’t going to solve the Giants’ longstanding QB woes by himself, but he should serve as a nice bridge option for any prospects Big Blue might select in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Wilson isn’t going to let those mild expectations keep him at bay, though. In a new social media post, New York’s starting quarterback reminded everyone of his championship pedigree.

Russell Wilson Celebrates Super Bowl Milestone on Social Media
Responding to a graphic posted on Instagram by Amazon’s NFL account, Wilson celebrated the fact that he’s the fourth-youngest starting quarterback to ever win the Super Bowl (dating back to his 2013 triumph with the Seahawks) by leaving a simple three-word message: “God is good!”
Wilson won that Super Bowl at 25 years, two months and four days old. The only quarterbacks who have claimed the Lombardi Trophy at a younger age are Tom Brady (24 years, six months old), Patrick Mahomes (24 years, four months and 16 days old), and Ben Roethlisberger (23 years, 11 months and three days old).
Not bad company to be in.
Though it’s been more than a decade since he last reached the NFL mountaintop, Wilson is still a serviceable quarterback. How he fares with one of the worst teams in the league is a fair question, though.
Over the past three seasons, New York has allowed pressure on 41.4% of dropbacks, the highest rate in the league and seven full percentage points worse than the league average. Wilson didn’t blink under duress in his final season with the Denver Broncos (99.5 passer rating, second best in the league), but the now 36-year-old ranked 19th in such spots with the Steelers last season (69.7 passer rating).
Lest anyone forget, the Giants also signed Jameis Winston in free agency, which could set up quite the quarterback battle in New York.
According to PFSN’s QB+ metric, Wilson finished the 2024 season as the league’s 17th-best quarterback with a 75.3 grade. Winston graded out a fair bit lower, finishing 29th with a 65.7 grade.
However, Winston had huge variance in his performances, with three games grading as a D or below and four games grading as a C or above. Wilson, on the other hand, was steadily in the C range as he pitched and lurched his way to some wins with Pittsburgh.
The answer to the question “Who starts in New York next season” could be as simple as whether or not the Giants have any risk tolerance. If they don’t, expect Wilson to draw the lion’s share of action behind center.
