How Did Jalen Milroe Play in Preseason Week 3? A Look at the Seahawks QB’s Stats and Highlights vs. Packers

Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe got the start for Seattle against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. How did Milroe do?

Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe put together a less-than-impressive start Saturday, Aug. 23, as the Seahawks wrapped up their NFL preseason schedule with a 20-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Entering the game, Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said Milroe would start the entire game. The Seahawks drafted Milroe in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft after a stellar career with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

How Did Jalen Milroe Do for the Seahawks?

In the first half alone, Milroe went 7-of-12 passing for 65 yards, with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked three times for 19 yards in losses and lost the ball twice.

Milroe’s first pass was a 12-yard completion. But the Packers’ Quay Walker sacked him on a third-down play during Seattle’s opening drive. Milroe’s offensive line offered little help, as the Seahawks played mostly third- and fourth-string players up front.

Late in the first quarter, Milroe was sacked by Green Bay’s Brendan Cox sacked Milroe on another third down. Milroe lost the ball, and the Packers recovered.

Early in the second quarter, Milroe fumbled again on a fourth-and-1 keeper, marking the second turnover for the Seahawks.

After his second fumble, cameras caught Milroe seemingly crying on the sidelines. Green Bay went down the field and scored a touchdown, making it Packers 17-0 at that point.

On the next series, running back Jacardia Wright ripped off a 61-yard run into Packers territory. Milroe appeared to score on a 6-yard touchdown run, but it was nullified by a holding penalty. His fourth-down pass attempt was tipped at the line, turning the ball back over on downs.

Milroe later connected with Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a 27-yard strike, his best throw of the day.

Upon seeing that play, Seahawks beat writer Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune posted on X, “That was what the #Seahawks coaches wanted to see: Jalen Milroe straight dropback, standing tall, with time throwing deep over the middle a dart onto the chest of Marquez Valdes-Scantling for 27 yards to begin this drive. Milroe’s best play of the day. MVS’ best play of camp.”

Still, Milroe’s struggles continued. On a fourth-and-2 late in the first half, he rolled right but was stopped short of the marker. Seattle’s defense forced a three-and-out, giving Milroe one more shot before halftime, but he couldn’t move the offense. Green Bay led 20-0 at the break.

Did Milroe Improve His Play in the Second Half?

Milroe came out to open the second half, but Seattle had to punt the ball back after a three-and-out. He overthrew a receiver on one attempt, and the Seahawks punted again after another stalled drive.

Through three quarters, Seattle remained scoreless, 20-0.

The Seahawks got a nice punt return from Cody White to open the fourth quarter, giving Milroe and Seattle the ball at their own 43-yard line. A 5-yard false start penalty moved Seattle back five yards.

Early in the fourth quarter, Cody White gave Seattle good field position with a punt return to the 43. After a false-start penalty, Milroe hit White for 25 yards, then capped the drive with an 18-yard touchdown pass, his first in the NFL.

Milroe led another promising drive but fumbled a snap at the Green Bay 47 with less than three minutes left. The Packers recovered, sealing the game.

For the night, Milroe went 13-of-24 passing for 148 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. He was responsible for three turnovers, all of which helped keep Seattle’s offense out of rhythm. Fans voiced frustration with his performance throughout the game.

The Seahawks are set to open the season with Sam Darnold as the starting quarterback and Drew Lock as the backup. Milroe is expected to remain on the 53-man roster as the third quarterback.

After Saturday’s game, the Seahawks will have to get their roster trimmed down to 53 players by NFL Cutdown Day, which is Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m. E.T.
