Philadelphia’s offseason drama continues to unfold at quarterback. An NFL insider suggested the Eagles could be approaching a pivotal evaluation period with Jalen Hurts. Those remarks also connect to broader roster and coaching changes inside the organization.
Jeremy Fowler Says Jalen Hurts Is “At a Crossroad” After 2025 Season
During Thursday’s edition of Get Up, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler described a growing belief around the league that Philadelphia could be reassessing its quarterback trajectory.
“One question around the league is, do they draft a quarterback, maybe in day two, to apply a little bit of pressure on Jalen Hurts, who I believe is at a crossroad right now after the way last season went,” Fowler said.
“And Jalen Hurts was drafted in the second round, eventually replaced Carson Wentz, who got a massive deal just that offseason before. Does that same thing now happen to Jalen Hurts eventually?”
Fowler’s comparison to Carson Wentz carries historical weight in Philadelphia. Wentz signed a long-term extension in 2019, only to be supplanted by Hurts the following season. The Eagles ultimately traded Wentz after Hurts won the starting job.

Philadelphia finished the 2025 regular season 11–6 and secured the NFC East, but lost in the Wild Card round to the San Francisco 49ers 23-19. The offense finished 19th in points scored and 23rd in passing yards. According to PFSN’s NFL Offense Impact Metric, the Eagles ranked 16th.
A.J. Brown Trade Buzz, Offensive Reset, And Coaching Changes Add Pressure
Fowler also revealed significant uncertainty surrounding star wide receiver A.J. Brown.
“Well, some people I’ve talked to around the league, some executives at other teams, do expect that the Eagles will at least entertain a trade for A.J. Brown, who is unhappy on numerous fronts,” Fowler said. “I mean, name the accounts where he looked like he was miserable out there, body language wasn’t good. So something has to give. That’s sort of the feeling right now.”

Brown remains one of the NFL’s best playmakers. His availability would draw attention league-wide. His production dipped slightly in 2025, finishing with 1,003 receiving yards.
Taken together, Fowler’s remarks frame an offseason filled with decisions that could define Philadelphia’s next phase. After having once replaced Carson Wentz with a second-round quarterback, Philadelphia now faces scrutiny over whether history will once again rhyme.
