Jalen Hurts had arguably the worst statistical season in 2025 in his five years as the full-time starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. They still made it to the NFL Playoffs, but the defending Super Bowl champions have struggled offensively. Their superstar recently pointed the finger at offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo for the reason why things have been different this year.
Jalen Hurts Calls Out Kevin Patullo Amid Eagles’ Offensive Struggles
Hurts has built a reputation for being one of the best rushing quarterbacks in the NFL during his career. He has carried this identity to two Super Bowl appearances, including winning a ring for last season.
The Eagles’ offensive game plan has been much different this year under new offensive coordinator Patullo, with Hurts recording the fewest rushing yards and touchdowns in any season of his career since taking over as their starter back in 2021. The quarterback recently called out his coach’s decisions, according to Zach Berman of “The Athletic.”
“No, the season has just gone the way it has. The approach this year, and the way the games have been called with this coordinator, with coach KP, it’s just kind of gone that way. I’ve taken it in stride and I’m giving my best with the position they’ve put me in,” stated Hurts.
Hurts finished the 2025 NFL season with 105 carries for 421 yards and 8 touchdowns, all three of which are career lows during his five years as a full-time starter. This has also resulted in him being ranked just 15th among quarterbacks in PFSN’s NFL QB Impact Rankings, which is also the lowest of his career. He had never finished any season lower than seventh previously.
The Eagles star shot down the idea that fewer attempts would keep him healthier this year and simply explained the dip in production in the way Patullo calls the offensive plays. This is his first season in this position after replacing Kellen Moore, who accepted the role as head coach of the New Orleans Saints following Philadelphia’s Super Bowl victory last year.
They still won the NFC East division title and earned a spot in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, where they will take on the San Francisco 49ers.
It will be interesting to see if Patullo sticks with his game plan of rushing Hurts less than in years past now that the postseason has arrived. Playing back into his strengths could be the best way for them to potentially get their offense back on track.
