The Raiders need a lot of help. Their team is struggling mightily and their last loss was yet another example of their tough season. They brought in a new regime hoping to change their fortunes in 2024, but they’ve had no luck. Now, their season hangs in the balance, and following their Week 8 bye week, it’s now or never for Las Vegas.
The Raiders might be receiving some good news, though, with key offensive weapons potentially set to return.
Jakobi Meyers Injury Update and Week 9 Status
Jakobi Meyers missed Week 7 with multiple injuries to his knee and toe, but could be available in Week 9. The extra week of rest could prove to be pivotal in getting Meyers back. Having not played since October 12, he’s had plenty of time to rest and get healthy for Las Vegas.
Back in Week 7, Meyers was limited in the Friday practice leading up to their defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s been preparing over the bye week to get healthy, and could be a full participant in practice before Week 9. He is expected to be ready to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars as long as he doesn’t have any setbacks in the lead-up to the game.
The Raiders could certainly use him out there as they’ve also been without their star TE Brock Bowers. Bowers set the NFL rookie receptions record, made the Pro Bowl, and made first-team All-Pro in 2024. The offensive weapons for QB Geno Smith look a lot different when Meyers and Bowers are options in the passing game.
Meyers is one of the most sure-handed pass catchers in the NFL. He did not drop a single pass in 2024. His reliability over the last four years has earned him plenty of respect across the league. He’s registered over 800 receiving yards in every season since 2021. Last year was a career year for him, when he finally broke the 1,000-yard mark.
The Raiders have a pretty young receiving room outside of Meyers. He is the veteran of the group until they recently added Tyler Lockett, who is reuniting with old friends, Pete Carroll and Smith.
Meyers has been the example in Las Vegas, and he’s set a good standard of how to produce. He is the 44th-ranked wide receiver in PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact score with a grade of 75.4.
Meyers is a potential trade target for contenders if the Raiders can’t turn their season around with a win against Jacksonville. His health will be important to monitor as this would affect whether he will potentially be moved at the trade deadline. For now, though, he will be focused on helping Las Vegas get back on track.
