NFL Insider Offers Major Update On Jaire Alexander’s Packers Future Amid Recent Trade Rumors

One of the top storylines surrounding the Green Bay Packers this offseason was the future of cornerback Jaire Alexander. The two-time Pro Bowler looked like a trade candidate, but now it seems his future may still be in Titletown.

Does Jaire Alexander’s Future Include Staying a Packer?

Alexander was Green Bay’s first-round pick in 2018 out of Louisville, a selection they secured after trading up with the Seattle Seahawks.

Since arriving, he’s proven his value — when healthy. But multiple injuries, including to his shoulder, groin and knee, have limited his time on the field.

In an article for ESPN, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler shared insight into the situation between Alexander and the team.

“The Packers passing on cornerback for the first six rounds seems to signify that Jaire Alexander is staying with the team, barring a unique trade offer or a contractual stalemate.”

Injuries aside, Alexander’s contract is another concern. His $24.6 million cap hit in 2025 is steep, especially for a player who hasn’t been consistently available.

Fowler also noted the Packers might be trying to renegotiate Alexander’s deal to reflect that.

“The Packers and Alexander are working on a resolution that should materialize soon. A revised contract for Alexander, due $17.5 million in cash this year, to balance his injury history with his longtime status as an elite corner might be the most sensible play.”

Green Bay did select Tulane’s Micah Robinson in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. But it’s unlikely Robinson will be ready to take over a CB1 role, which suggests the team still sees Alexander as part of its plans — at least for now.

Look Back at Alexander’s Time in Green Bay

Some insiders still think the Packers could shake up the secondary and move on from Alexander. But his talent has never been in question.

In 2024, Pro Football Focus gave him an overall grade of 75.2, with a 57.8 in run defense and a 78.3 in coverage. The Packers’ defense earned a 79.5 (C+) grade in PFSN’s Defense+ metrics as a unit.

Over seven seasons with Green Bay, Alexander has posted 12 interceptions, three forced fumbles, 70 passes defended, 1.5 sacks and 287 total tackles.

Despite his reputation as one of the NFL’s top corners, injuries have dragged down his ranking. He played only seven games in both 2023 and 2024, which led to a No. 24 ranking among cornerbacks by PFF.

If the Packers decide to trade or release Alexander, his cap hit would fall to just over $17 million. If he’s cut after June 1, the team could split that hit across 2025 and 2026.

The Packers face a big decision that could reshape their defense — and Jaire Alexander’s career. We’ll see soon enough which way they go.
