NFL World Reacts as Jaguars Announce Plan for Travis Hunter

On Friday, Feb. 13, NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported that the Jaguars are expected to use Hunter as a “full-time” cornerback and a “part-time” wide receiver. The news sparked controversy across social media, and soon after, NFL fans and analysts took to X to share their thoughts.

NFL insider John Frascella shared his insight on the news, stating, “The Jaguars switching Travis Hunter to full-time cornerback really isn’t that much of a surprise… they LOVE Jakobi Meyers – whom they already extended – and of course they also have BTJ at WR… I also think they like what they’ve seen in Parker Washington’s development.”

NFL writer Gary Davenport mocked Jacksonville’s staff, writing, “Hey kid, you know the plan we had for you in 2025? Flip it. We’re starting over. Now you’re a CB.” He then shared his personal opinion, “Might be where he belongs (both ways was never gonna work), but still…not a great look for a staff that did most things right last year.”

Podcaster Michael Norton chimed in, saying, “He was better at wr, though”.

NFL analyst Brett Kollmann disagreed with that sentiment, noting, “This is what’s probably best for Travis and also what’s best for the Jags, but it does cast a harsher light on trading up to #2 overall for a corner.”

PFSN writer Frank Ammirante tweeted, “So the Jaguars traded two 1sts, one 2nd, and one 4th to move up to draft a cornerback. Yikes.”

In seven appearances this season, Hunter played the majority of his snaps at WR, while occasionally mixing in at CB. The rookie hauled in 28 receptions for 298 yards and 1 touchdown, along with 15 total tackles and 3 passes defensed.

Although Hunter played both sides of the ball in college, that expectation quickly proved to be unsustainable in the NFL. As former NFL RB Louis Riddick put it, “Playing full-time on both sides of the ball was never realistic.”

Hunter finished No. 87 87th among all WRs, while not ranking among CBs, per PFSN’s Impact rankings. Next fall, expect Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., and Jakobi Meyers to headline the WR room, while Hunter and Jarrian Jones lead the Jaguars’ CB group. Assuming everything goes to plan and Hunter can find his stride on the defensive side of the ball once again, expect the Jaguars to make major noise in the AFC.
