Is Tyrone Tracy Jr. Injured? A Look at the Giants RB’s Status After Slow Start in Week 17 vs. Raiders

After sliding into the starting running back role following Cam Skattebo's injury, Tyrone Tracy Jr. has gotten off to a slow start in Week 17.

The New York Giants have had a rollercoaster of a season marred by injuries and inconsistencies. While they’ve lost a few key players on offense, their loss has given second-year running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. a path back to the starting role.

After a couple of nice games the past couple of weeks, Tracy was shut down by the Las Vegas Raiders’ defense in the first half of their Week 17 matchup. Here’s a look at his slow start.

What Happened to New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr.?

No, Tracy is not injured; he has played in 13 games for the Giants this season, rushing 144 times for 575 yards and two touchdowns. He was forced back into the starting running back role after rookie Cam Skattebo fractured his fibula, dislocated his ankle, and ruptured his deltoid ligament in Week 8 of the 2025 season.

He had rushed 31 times for 141 yards and a touchdown over the last two weeks, but saw that pace slow a little bit in the first half of Week 17’s matchup with eight carries for 33 yards and one catch on two targets for a five-yard loss.

According to PFSN’s RB Impact metric, Tracy has been slightly worse than Skattebo this season. Tracy has ranked as the 43rd running back in the league with an impact score of 70.8. Skattebo rated slightly higher, coming in at 39th with an impact score of 71.5.

The Giants are solely in offseason preparation, following the firing of head coach Brian Daboll and New York’s search for a new head coach. Despite recent struggles, a win over the Raiders in Week 17 would go a long way for locker room morale.

New York has let rookie QB Jaxson Dart get a little more adventurous this week after borderline shutting him down in Week 16. He’s completed 17 of 23 passes for 158 yards and rushed four times for 31 yards and a touchdown. The offense has looked okay, but will undoubtedly be boosted by the return of Skattebo and WR Malik Nabers next season.

The Giants still have a long way to go in a suddenly competitive NFC, with the NFC North and West on fire. However, the flashes shown by Dart, Skattebo, and Nabers this season have made for a promising offense in 2026.

It will be interesting to see how Tracy fits in, as he has been solid in his role as the Giants’ starting running back. If he doesn’t stay with the Giants long term, he’ll absolutely have value for another franchise.
