Is Saquon Barkley Injured? A Look at the Eagles Superstar’s Status After Slow Start in Week 17 vs. Bills

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has had a slow start in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills in rainy conditions. Here is the latest update on his status.

Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley has had a slow start against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

As the Eagles approached the end zone late in the first quarter, Barkley had to be cautious when running on the wet turf, which may have impacted his performance.

What’s Happening With Eagles RB Saquon Barkley?

Barkley had five carries for 17 yards in the game when the Eagles took a 7-0 lead after Jalen Hurts connected with Dallas Goedert on a short touchdown pass.

Philadelphia started its scoring drive after Bills quarterback Josh Allen fumbled the ball. The ball went downfield toward the end zone, eventually recovered by the Eagles.

With the Eagles getting this lead, don’t be surprised if Barkley gets some more carries as the game rolls along. The ball-control game might be something Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni looks to emphasize, given the less-than-ideal weather conditions.

Barkley stepped off the field in the second quarter and appeared to be checking on his own legs on the Eagles’ sidelines. But he came right back into the game after a couple of plays, so he appears good to go right now. At the time of writing, Barkley had eight carries for 22 yards.

According to the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics, Barkley has an impact score of 75.2 and grades out to a C. So far this season, entering Sunday’s matchup against the Bills, Barkley has 261 carries for 1,072 yards and seven touchdowns.

Barkley also has proven to be adept at getting out of the backfield and open, should Hurts look for him. Entering Sunday’s game, Barkley had 37 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdown catches.

The Eagles are doing their best to get a win and boost their season record. Coming into the Bills’ clash, Philadelphia was 10-5 for the season, having already won the NFC East Division title. What about Buffalo? The Bills came in 11-4 on the season, including an incredible 6-1 mark at Highmark Stadium.

If Barkley can find some room and pick up yardage in difficult weather conditions, then the Eagles might just find themselves back in the win column. But it’s going to be tough sledding against Buffalo. It’s even possible, should temperatures drop even more, that the Eagles-Bills game turns into a snow game in the second half.

That’s something for Eagles fans to keep an watch out for as this game continues.
