Is Lamar Jackson Playing in Week 5? Latest on Ravens Star’s Status for Game vs. Texans

Baltimore Ravens starting quarterback Lamar Jackson has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Here's the latest on his Week 5 status.

Baltimore Ravens starting quarterback Lamar Jackson has looked forward to doing his part in leading the Ravens, hopefully, to a Super Bowl appearance. Jackson has been effective when on the field thanks to his accurate throwing arm and running abilities.

While that arm has been strong early on in the 2025 NFL season, it’s his legs that are causing him problems. More pointedly, Jackson has been dealing with a hamstring injury, and it’s been problematic for him to get back on the field.

What’s the Latest on Lamar Jackson?

On Sunday, the Ravens go up against C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans. Baltimore has had Houston’s number when it comes to NFL playoff games. Yet Jackson is still suffering with that hamstring issue, and Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has ruled him out of the Week 5 matchup.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Jackson underwent testing on his hamstring after he wasn’t able to finish the Ravens’ Week 4 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson did not participate in Baltimore’s practices last Wednesday and Thursday.

When the Ravens’ Injury Report came out on Friday, Jackson was listed on there as being out. With Jackson relegated to the sidelines, Harbaugh turns to backup quarterback Cooper Rush to lead the Ravens offense. Rush played last season as a backup to Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys.

The team is taking a week-to-week approach to Jackson. That means Baltimore will have to see how Jackson responds to any rehab work he’s doing away from practices. Jackson has been able to lead the Baltimore offense behind star running back Derrick Henry.

In four games this season for the 1-3 Ravens, Jackson has thrown for 869 yards, 10 touchdowns, and one interception.

As for Rush, he came in after Jackson left Baltimore’s 37-20 loss to the Chiefs. Rush went 9-of-13 passing for 52 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. He played his previous seven NFL seasons with the Cowboys, starting some games in place of Prescott when he was out injured.

Rush started eight games in the 2024 NFL season for the Cowboys, going 4-4 in the win-loss column. He’s going to have to come in and lead the Ravens against a very tough Texans defense. Houston might see this as a golden opportunity to catch Baltimore when they are a bit weak on offense without Jackson as the signal-caller.

The Ravens will host the Stroud-led Texans at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, October 5.
