Week 5 NFL Injury Report

While the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers open Week 5 with Thursday Night Football, other injuries for the below players might update as Sunday’s games get closer.

Bucky Irving, RB, and Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Bucky Irving is currently dealing with a foot sprain. Irving was seen at Buccaneers practice on Wednesday with crutches and a walking boot.

According to Schefter, the team does not consider Irving’s injury a long-term one — the Buccaneers are looking at Irving’s situation as week-to-week instead.

Still, head coach Todd Bowles, according to NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo, said that Irving has to be out of his walking boot by Friday to even play on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Update 10/3: Bucky Irving has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, along with wide receiver Mike Evans, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Update 10/2: Irving did not practice with the team on Thursday.

Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson is dealing with a hamstring injury and, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Jackson’s status for the Ravens game against the Houston Texans at home is in doubt.

Update 10/3: Jackson has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Texans. Other Ravens out Sunday include cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Marlon Humphrey, tackle Emery Jones Jr., fullback Patrick Ricard and inside linebacker Roquan Smith. Update 10/2: Jackson was listed as a non-participant in Thursday’s practice. Update 10/1: Jackson was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday’s practice.

Rapoport said that Jackson had some tests on his hamstring after not being able to finish last Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. This is a week-to-week situation for the Ravens’ starting quarterback, so if he cannot go, Cooper Rush will get the start for Baltimore against C.J. Stroud and the Texans.

Joe Mixon, RB, Houston Texans

Joe Mixon has been dealing with a foot injury since before the season and has been on the Texans’ Injured Reserve. There has been no update on his status for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens other than that Mixon is still out.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio remain pretty mum about the Pro Bowl running back. Any hopes of Mixon’s return to the Texans’ lineup this season look bleak as of right now.

Trey Benson, RB, Arizona Cardinals

Schefter reports that Trey Benson, the Cardinals’ RB2 to open the season, is being placed on Injured Reserve after suffering a knee injury. Benson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his meniscus and will be out between “four and six weeks.”

Benson will miss a minimum of four games. But he is expected to return later in the 2025 NFL season, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Wednesday.

Jayden Daniels, QB, and Deebo Samuel, WR, Washington Commanders

Rapoport reported that Jayden Daniels was medically cleared by team doctors on Wednesday and was due to practice with the Commanders. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn announced the news on Wednesday morning.

This week, Washington travels to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers, who suffered their first loss last week. The hope is that Daniels returns, and this game will turn into the quarterback duel many expect.

Update 10/3: Commanders announced that Daniels will start on Sunday vs. Chargers. Samuel, who has been dealing with a heel injury, was a full participant at practice on Friday and is a go for Sunday, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. Update 10/2: Daniels was a full participant again at Commanders practice on Thursday. Update 10/1: On Wednesday, Daniels was a full participant in practice and is on track to start against the Chargers on Sunday.

David Moore, WR, Carolina Panthers

On Wednesday, the Panthers placed receiver David Moore on Injured Reserve. He suffered an elbow injury and will be out at least four games for Carolina.

Moore was injured on Carolina’s first play from scrimmage last Sunday against the New England Patriots when he took a jet sweep and ran 12 yards. On the play, it appeared that Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones brought Moore down after grabbing his arm. Eventually, Moore had to be carted off the field.

Braelon Allen, RB, New York Jets

Braelon Allen is dealing with a “pretty serious” knee injury, according to Jets head coach Aaron Glenn on Wednesday. Glenn said that Allen is getting a second opinion on his injury situation, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported.

Allen is out at least four weeks with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee. He was injured on a first-quarter kickoff return against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

Update 10/2: Allen was placed on Injured Reserve on Thursday, according to Schefter. Allen will miss a minimum of four games, maybe more.

Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers

Brock Purdy is still dealing with soreness after suffering a turf toe injury. He missed the 49ers’ Week 2 and Week 3 games, but saw some action in their Week 4 matchup.

Update 10/2: With Purdy out and Mac Jones starting, the 49ers signed QB Adrian Martinez to the 53-man roster on Thursday. He’ll be Jones’ backup QB. WR Malik Turner and DE Trevis Gipson elevated from practice squad. Update 10/1: On Wednesday, it was announced that Purdy would be ruled out for Week 5’s Thursday Night Football matchup with the Rams. In his place, backup Mac Jones will make his third straight start. WR Jordan Watkins (calf) was also ruled out.

Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall, WRs, San Francisco 49ers

Jauan Jennings is dealing with shoulder, ankle, and rib injuries and did not practice on Tuesday. Pearsall, who has a knee injury, also did not practice. It was also confirmed on Wednesday that both receivers and Purdy will be absent on Thursday night.

With these important offensive pieces out, Jones’ top pass catchers are expected to be Kendrick Bourne, Demarcus Robinson, and TE Jake Tonges.

Tyler Higbee, TE, Los Angeles Rams

Tyler Higbee has a hip injury and did not practice with the Rams on Tuesday. His status will be determined ahead of the Thursday night home game against the 49ers.

Update 10/2: Higbee is listed as doubtful for Thursday night’s game.

Malik Nabers, WR, New York Giants

Malik Nabers suffered a serious knee injury in Sunday’s home game at MetLife Stadium. According to Giants reporter Dan Duggan for The Athletic, Nabers suffered “partially torn lateral meniscus in addition to the torn ACL in his right knee, per source.”

Duggan added that Nabers’ meniscus will probably get repaired at the same time he undergoes ACL reconstructive surgery. Nabers is out for the rest of the 2025 NFL season.

Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins

Tyreek Hill dislocated his left knee and suffered additional torn ligaments on Monday night while making a third-quarter reception against the New York Jets at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Hill underwent surgery in a Miami-area hospital and is now recovering. He is also gone for the rest of the season.

Terry McLaurin, WR, Washington Commanders

Terry McLaurin did not play in the Commanders’ Week 4 game after being ruled out due to a quadriceps injury. Regardless, Washington HC Dan Quinn said that McLaurin was trending in the right direction to return this week.

“All are trending up… We’re making good progress with those guys,” Quinn said on Wednesday about McLaurin and teammates Noah Brown and Josh Bates.

Update 10/2: On Thursday, McLaurin was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium. WR Noah Brown and G Sam Cosmi also were ruled out and all three will not travel to Los Angeles. Update 10/1: On Wednesday, McLaurin did not practice with the Commanders.

CeeDee Lamb, WR, Dallas Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb has been dealing with an ankle injury, but he was spotted at Cowboys practice on Wednesday without a walking boot. He was going through some light practice work on the field.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Wednesday that Lamb is “progressing well” and that the team does not plan on putting Lamb on Injured Reserve at this time.

Update 10/3: Lamb has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets along with fellow WR KeVontae Turpin, guard Tyler Booker and offensive tackle Tyler Guyton. Update 10/2: On Thursday, Lamb did more rehab work during practice.

J.J. McCarthy, QB, Minnesota Vikings

J.J. McCarthy, who has been dealing with a high ankle sprain, did not practice with the Vikings on Wednesday. He remains sidelined at this time, and backup quarterback Carson Wentz will likely get the start against the Cleveland Browns in London this week.

When asked on Wednesday about McCarthy’s return, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said, “My hope is soon. Sooner rather than later, we can get him at least back on an individual level, where he’s throwing to our guys.”

Update 10/3: McCarthy has been ruled out of Sunday’s game, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. Update 10/2: McCarthy made a few throws on the side, according to ESPN Vikings reporter Kevin Seifert.

Tyrone Tracy, RB, New York Giants

Tyrone Tracy Jr. suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Giants’ Week 3 game. It looks like Tracy will be out of action for between two and four weeks.

Update 10/3: Tracy is listed as doubtful while defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, who has been dealing with an illness, is listed as questionable.

D.J. Reed, CB, Detroit Lions

On Wednesday, the Lions placed D.J. Reed on Injured Reserve, putting him out of four games.

Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers

Chuba Hubbard did not practice on Wednesday because he was dealing with a calf injury. Head coach Dave Canales said he is listed as day-to-day.

Update 10/3: Hubbard has been ruled out on Sunday along with tight end JT Sanders.  Update 10/2: Hubbard did not practice on Thursday.

Dallas Goedert, TE, Philadelphia Eagles

Dallas Goedert did not practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury.

Update 10/3: Goedert is off the injury report and will be good to go along with defensive tackle Jalen Carter and right tackle Lane Johnson. Update 10/2: Goedert returned to Eagles practice on Thursday.

Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts

Update 10/3: Michael Pittman Jr., who has been dealing with a hamstring injury, was a full participant in Friday’s practice and is good to go on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Calvin Ridley, WR, Tennessee Titans

Update 10/3: Calvin Ridley, who has been dealing with knee and elbow injuries, returned to the Titans practice on a limited basis on Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
