Is Kyren Williams Hurt? Breaking Down the Rams RB’s Slow Start in Week 2 vs. Titans

Rams running back Kyren Williams did not have a great first half on Sunday. Fans might be wondering if Williams was injured. Well, is he?

The Los Angeles Rams were down 13-10 at halftime against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday and their running game didn’t provide too much help. Specifically, running back Kyren Williams appeared to get lost in the Rams backfield shuffle.

While the Rams were able to score a touchdown and a field goal to get their 10 points, having Williams involved more in the game plan was something Rams coach Sean McVay wanted to see.

What Happened to Kyren Williams?

Looking at Williams’ first-half statistics, Rams fans might think there was something wrong with him.

He had seven carries for 18 yards in the first half alone, averaging 2.6 yards per carry. Puka Nacua led the Rams in rushing with one carry for 45 yards. He scored a touchdown last Sunday in the Rams’ season-opening win over the Houston Texans.

Williams was getting roasted by Rams fans on social media for his lack of a solid performance. Some of those fans were complaining that his output hurt their fantasy teams. Other people just were upset that Williams wasn’t dominating in the run game.

Fantasy Talk About Williams

When taking a look at fantasy player options around Williams, PFSN’s Kyle Soppe had some interesting thoughts on the Rams running back.

“Since Week 13, 2024: 3rd in carries, not one of 25 players with a 21+ yard run,” Soppe wrote. “Since Week 13, 2023: 2nd in carries, not one of 78 players with a 31+ yard run.
He averages under two catches per game for his career and has underwhelmed on a yards per carry in two of three seasons (3.7 YPC on Sunday has me thinking he’ll make it three of four).

“So yes, he scores touchdowns and that’s great,” Soppe wrote. “But what happens if the offense fails to move the ball? He’s not going to land a haymaker from distance and if he’s held out of the end zone, he falls from RB19 to RB33 in Week 1.

“I intentionally have zero shares of Williams, but if I had him and could get running backs drafted in his general range (Bucky Irving, James Cook, or Omarion Hampton), I’d jump without thinking twice.”

At this time, there’s no word about any injury to Williams. So, it looks like he’ll need to pick up the pace in the second half.
