Is Javonte Williams Injured? A Look at the Cowboys RB’s Status After Slow Start on Thanksgiving vs. Chiefs

Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams has been trying to do his part in helping the Cowboys get a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, he has failed to make an impact so far.

Is Cowboys RB Javonte Williams Injured?

As Dallas opened the third quarter with a 17-14 lead, Williams had nine carries for just 26 yards. Malik Davis, Williams’ teammate, has been the highlight reel in the run game with a 43-yard touchdown run in the first half.

But the Dallas defense has been keeping the Chiefs in check thanks to this great play from Jadeveon Clowney.

According to the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics, Williams has an impact score of 82.3 and grades out to a B-. On the season, Williams has 181 carries for 896 yards and eight touchdowns.

Williams was a second-round draft pick (No. 35 overall) by the Denver Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. He played his first four NFL seasons with the Broncos before joining the Cowboys ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

In four-plus seasons in the NFL, Williams has 787 carries for 3,290 yards and 19 touchdowns. In his career, Williams is averaging 4.2 yards per carry, which is an outstanding number for the Dallas offense that looks to take chunks of yardage to move downfield.

Besides an option out of the backfield, Williams has also shown an ability to be a trustworthy pass catcher, too. In his NFL career, Williams has 186 receptions for 1,073 yards and six touchdown receptions. He’s gaining, on average in his career, 5.8 yards per reception.

Williams had an outstanding rookie season for the Broncos, gaining 903 yards rushing and scoring four touchdowns. But Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury after four games into the 2022 NFL season. He rebounded with 774 yards in 2023 and 513 yards in 2024.

With the Cowboys this season, Williams is already near his career high in rushing yardage. If he gets more carries from Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott as the season continues, then it’s more than likely Williams could find himself with his first NFL 1,000-yard rushing season.

That would be most welcome for a Dallas run game that’s needed someone like Williams to step in and help balance out the Cowboys’ passing game with a stout running back.
