Is Jakobi Meyers Injured? A Look at the Jaguars Star’s Status After Slow Start in Week 17 vs. Colts

Jaguars WR Jakobi Meyers started the game slow in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts. Here is the latest update on his status.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is doing his best to help the Jaguars pick up a victory over Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, but so far has failed to make an impact.

Meyers needs to get in gear for the Jaguars, who could really use a victory in light of the Houston Texans’ 20-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday.

What’s Happening With Jaguars WR Jakobi Meyers?

So far in the first half, with the Colts up 10-0, Meyers has four catches for 21 yards.

Meyers has been targeted five times by Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the game. The Jaguars came out ready to play, though, before the opening kickoff. Lawrence, though, scored a touchdown on his own, closing the gap to 10-7.

This is an important game for the Colts, who are looking to get into the NFL postseason picture. Meyers and the Jaguars have already clinched a spot for postseason play, along with the Texans.

According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Meyers has an impact score of 75.5 and grades out to a C. Entering Sunday’s road game against the Colts, Meyers has 64 catches for 752 yards and three touchdown catches. He’s averaging 7.9 yards per catch on the season, too.

Meyers has been targeted 46 times by Lawrence this season. He’s in his seventh NFL season after playing his college ball at North Carolina State. Meyers played his first four seasons with the New England Patriots, followed by three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. This is his first season catching passes from Lawrence with Jacksonville.

As for career numbers, Meyers has 457 catches for 5,344 yards. He averages 11.7 yards per catch, so Meyers knows how to get loose downfield to make some clutch receptions. He also has 23 career touchdown catches, too.

Meyers is also a limited option in the run game. For his career, Meyers has 16 carries for 67 yards and two rushing touchdowns. So, Meyers proves to be most effective as a receiver. The Jaguars are trying to secure the AFC South title, so Meyers will have to play a big role in doing so for Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and his teammates.

Look for Meyers, who does not appear to be injured, to play an even bigger role in the second half against Indianapolis.
