Is D’Onta Foreman Playing Today? Latest Injury Updates, Fantasy Analysis, and More (December 24, 2023)

Will the Chicago Bears' backfield have all of its weapons in Week 16? Will D'Onta Foreman be playing this week vs. the Arizona Cardinals?

Seasoned veteran D’Onta Foreman knows what it is like to come in and save the day for a backfield decimated by injury. He did it last season with the Carolina Panthers, finishing the season as RB35 in a year where he was not expected to be anywhere near that successful.

Foreman is on the way to doing the same thing this season in Chicago. After filling in for Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson in the middle of the season after both players went down to injury in Week 5 against Washington, Foreman won many fantasy football managers’ weeks with his impressive RB1 finish in Week 7 against Las Vegas.

Will we see Foreman on the field this week?

Is D’Onta Foreman Going To Play Week 16?

Editor’s note: Foreman is not expected to play in Week 16 due to a personal matter.

It is much easier to theorize if a player is going to see the field if they have physical issues they are dealing with.

However, Foreman seems to be dealing with a personal matter this week that might hold him out of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Foreman did not practice on Thursday but was limited on Friday. It is somewhat unusual for a player dealing with personal issues to appear as limited in practice. Traditionally, that player would practice in full or not practice at all.

This begs the question of whether or not Foreman might also have an underlying physical issue that could potentially hold him back.

The breakdown of the backfield touches has been fluid this season. In Week 14, Foreman had 73% of the RB carries, but that dropped drastically to 35% in Week 15.

If Foreman gets on the field this week, the distribution of carries among the RBs will be up in the air.

One certain thing is the matchup — it is a juicy one for the RBs against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals have given up the most fantasy points this season to opposing RBs.

They have allowed at least 100 yards rushing nine times this season, as well as 13 TDs on the ground and eight receiving TDs to RBs.

Foreman is RB38 this week in PFN’s Consensus Rankings.

Potential Fantasy Options If D’Onta Foreman Is Out Include Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson

Fantasy managers must make sure to listen out for the inactives when Chicago relieves them on Sunday afternoon. It is in the later slate, so fantasy managers must have a pivot option available. If Foreman is out, Herbert and Johnson will be running the backfield in Chicago.

Both are decent fantasy options in a fantastic matchup. Herbert has been having trouble getting going after missing a span of five games in the middle of the season due to injury. His best finish after returning has been RB37. Johnson has been slightly better — he finished as the RB29 in Week 15.

I would expect close to a 50/50 split in the backfield if Foreman is out, and if you are deciding between Herbert and Johnson, I would lean toward Johnson.
