Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. was out on the Northwest Stadium field on Monday night as the Commanders squared off against Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears on “Monday Night Football.”
Samuel is a key asset to the Commanders’ offense behind quarterback Jayden Daniels. He’s gotten open at times downfield, but has not been really involved too much throughout the first half.
What’s Happening With Commanders’ Deebo Samuel Sr.?
It wasn’t that Samuel wasn’t ready for the Monday night game under the TV lights on ABC. Samuel showed up looking sharp before the game and appeared ready to go.
In the first half, though, Samuel only had two catches for two yards. He was targeted three times by Daniels, though, so his output is a little bit under what he usually puts up in games as the Bears hold a 13-7 halftime lead over Washington.
However, Samuel has a good reason for not being fully involved. He came into the game dealing with a bruised heel for the past two weeks. In fact, Daniels was listed as questionable before the Bears-Commanders game.

But he was cleared to play and was out running routes and trying to get open for Daniels. In a Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Samuel played through the pain. He caught eight balls for 96 yards and a touchdown. Samuel was targeted 11 times in the game.
Through those five games, Samuel leads Washington with 30 receptions for 300 yards, 346 scrimmage yards, and four total touchdowns. On the PFSN WR Impact Score metrics, Samuel has an 84.8 WR Impact Score and grades out with a B.
Samuel was a second-round pick (36th overall) by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2019 NFL Draft. With that bruised heel issue, the star receiver only appeared on the Commanders’ practice field on Friday before the Monday night game.
Samuel has 364 receptions for 5,092 yards and 25 touchdown catches in his career. Samuel’s longest career reception is an 83-yarder. He’s also had a knack for carrying the ball when called to do so. Samuel has 209 carries for 1,189 yards and 21 touchdowns for his career.
Samuel has proven himself to be a reliable receiving option throughout his career, whether with the 49ers or Commanders. If Daniels can locate him in open space in the second half, he might have a bigger role to play for the Commanders.
