Failing to find his footing with the Detroit Lions after being drafted by the franchise in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, running back D’Andre Swift has found a home with the Chicago Bears following a one-year pitstop with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
Swift had a big season with Chicago in 2024 and followed it up with another huge season in 2025 despite pressure from rookie running back Kyle Monangai, who has looked equally impressive this season. He performed exceptionally well against the Cleveland Browns in 2025, but he has had a slow start against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16.
What Happened to Chicago Bears RB D’Andre Swift?
No, Swift is not injured. He’s played in 13 games for the Bears this season, turning 191 carries into 935 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s also caught 29 of 41 targets for 254 yards and another trip to the end zone. He’s already surpassed his touchdown total from last season, and should have no issues hitting 1,000 yards for the second time in his career.
However, after the expectation of head coach Ben Johnson feeding Swift the ball, Monangai out-snapped him nine to eight through the Bears’ first two offensive drives, and out-touched him five to four in the first half, as Monangai gained 24 yards to Swift’s 16.

Despite Monangai getting more snaps over the course of the season, Swift has thrived in 2025. According to PFSN’s RB Impact metric, the sixth-year back enters Week 16 as the sixth-ranked back in the NFL with an impact score of 84.8. Much higher than Monangai’s impact score of 77.5, making him the 20th-ranked running back in the league.

A tough outing against the Packers in Week 14 was sandwiched by two solid outings against the Eagles in Week 13 and the Cleveland Browns in Week 15.
Against his former franchise, Swift ran all over Philadelphia, turning 18 carries into 125 yards and a touchdown. As for last week, he turned 18 carries into 98 yards and two touchdowns during Chicago’s 31-3 win over Cleveland.
Despite a quiet first half, the Bears’ defense has kept the Packers in check, holding them to six points. The Bears were able to kick a field goal to open the second half, cutting the lead to 6-3, as the running backs continued to thrive.
However, Chicago’s offense will need to start finishing drives with touchdowns if it wants to win the NFC North and secure the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
