Is Chris Olave Playing Today? Latest Injury Updates, Fantasy Analysis, and More

Chris Olave has been a strong performer for fantasy managers in his last three games. However, he is questionable for today. Will Olave play today?

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave has been on a bit of a hot streak in fantasy football lately. However, when he entered the concussion protocol earlier this week as a result of an in-game hit in Week 12, fantasy managers feared the worst concerning his status this week.

Olave is currently listed as questionable for today’s game against the Detroit Lions. Yet, fantasy managers will be hoping he can play today.

Will Olave play today, What is the latest with his concussion injury, and, if he can play today, what is his fantasy outlook today against the Lions? Let’s dive in and analyze these questions in more detail.

Is Chris Olave Going To Play Week 13?

Olave has been dealing with a concussion after sustaining it in Week 12. However, despite being in the concussion protocol, Olave has been able to practice this week.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Olave practiced, albeit in a limited capacity. But on Friday, he was able to practice in a full capacity. This is a really good sign that he could potentially clear the concussion protocol in time to play the Lions today.

And Adam Schefter of ESPN posted a positive update with regards to Olave this morning. He wrote on X, “Saints’ WR Chris Olave, listed as questionable for Sunday due to his concussion, is expected to play vs. the Lions, per source.”

Therefore, it appears Olave is likely to play today against the Lions. But what is his fantasy outlook for today? Let’s take a look.

What Is Olave’s Potential Fantasy Outlook for Today?

Olave enters today’s game as the WR20 in fantasy football. However, he is averaging over 15.6 fantasy points over his last three games.

Olave is currently ranked as the WR32 in our PFN Consensus Rankings for Week 13. But this is likely due to his status in the concussion protocol.

His matchup against the Lions is one of optimism for fantasy managers willing to start him this week. In the last three weeks, the Lions have given up the WR9 overall performance to Christian Watson on Thanksgiving, the WR6 overall performance to DJ Moore in Week 11, and the WR1 overall performance to Keenan Allen in Week 10.

On top of this, the Lions are currently allowing 30.9 fantasy points per game to wide receivers, which is the seventh-most allowed by NFL teams in 2023.

Therefore, this plus matchup, mixed in with the recent run Olave has been on, means Olave should be a must-start option in all fantasy formats if he can clear the concussion protocol this week.

I would expect Olave to start today and put in a strong fantasy performance, given the record of the Lions against top wide receivers as of late.
