Is CeeDee Lamb Playing in Week 5? Latest on Cowboys Star’s Status for Game vs. Jets

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has been dealing with an ankle injury over the past few weeks. Here's his status for Week 5.

In his six seasons with the Cowboys, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has been one of the most trusted pass catchers for Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott. Still, it is worth noting that Lamb has no touchdown catches through four games in the 2025 NFL season.

Lamb, though, has been dealing with an ankle injury this week, leading up to Sunday’s Cowboys game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Cowboys fans hope that Lamb can step onto the field and offer Prescott a prime target downfield.

What’s The Latest on CeeDee Lamb’s Ankle Injury?

During the week leading up to the Jets game, Lamb was seen at Cowboys practice working out without a walking boot on. There was some hope that Lamb could be healthy enough to play.

That’s not going to happen, though, as Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer jas officially ruled Lamb out. He joins fellow receiver KaVontae Turpin on the sidelines, watching Dallas hopefully secure a victory. The Cowboys are 1-2-1 after last Sunday night’s 40-40 tie with the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium.

Lamb was a first-round pick by the Cowboys out of Oklahoma in the 2020 NFL Draft. So far in the 2025 NFL season, Lamb has 16 catches for 222 yards. He averages 13.9 yards per reception this season.

Across 84 career games with Dallas, Lamb has 512 catches out of being targeted 744 times for 6,561 yards and 38 touchdowns. His longest career catch is a 92-yarder, and Lamb, for his career, averages 12.8 yards per catch.

CeeDee Lamb Injury Update: When Will Fantasy Managers Get the Cowboys Star WR Back?

Lamb has shown an ability to break away from cornerbacks when he can find room downfield. He’s also been adept at making sideline catches as Prescott targets him during two-minute drives. Not having Lamb out there on Sunday means that Prescott will have to look at other receiving options.

It might be a good thing that Lamb doesn’t play on Sunday. It’s not that Cowboys fans don’t want to see him out there. But the MetLife Stadium turf has been scrutinized in recent years, especially after a devastating Week 4 injury to New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers.

Not having to deal with that field surface might be wise for Lamb’s healing for the rest of this season. Having sustained his injury in Week 3, the initial timetable for a return to action was three to four weeks. This means that while he might not be suiting up Sunday, he could be back in the next two weeks when Dallas takes on Carolina and Washington.

Regardless, the Cowboys kick off against the Jets at MetLife at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on certain FOX stations.
