While everyone’s attention around the NFL is on 44-year-old Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers on Sunday, wide receiver Alec Pierce has been trying to do his part.
Rivers led the Colts to a 13-6 lead into the third quarter over the Seattle Seahawks in front of a loud crowd at Lumen Field in Seattle. Pierce, though, has been silent.
What’s Happened To Colts WR Alec Pierce?
Rivers threw a touchdown pass in the second quarter that put the Colts ahead of the Seahawks. In the first half alone, Rivers was 10-of-16 passing for 82 yards and no touchdowns. He finished the first half with a QBR of 96.4.
In the Indianapolis receiving statistics, Michael Pittman Jr., Ameer Abdullah, Tyler Warren, Josh Downs, and Jonathan Taylor all had catches. Pierce? He wasn’t even targeted in the first half. There’s been no news regarding an injury situation with Pierce, so it’s not clear why he’s not among the pass-catching group at this time.

Rivers might look for Pierce more in the second half as he and the Colts look to pull off somewhat of an upset on the road.
According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Pierce has an impact score of 85.5 and grades out to a B. Entering Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, Pierce had 38 catches for 769 yards and two touchdown catches. Pierce is averaging 11.5 yards per catch this season.

Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter likely has some plays in the playbook that involve Pierce. At this time, though, Pierce is not even directly involved on the field so far. It’s interesting because Pierce is the top wide receiver for the Colts, as indicated by the PFSN impact metrics.
The Colts have a lot of eyeballs on their team on Sunday. All eyes are on Rivers, who is playing for Indianapolis after starting quarterback Daniel Jones went out for the season with a torn Achilles. Rookie Riley Leonard was serving as Rivers’ backup on Sunday. Brett Rypien was inactive, and Anthony Richardson Sr. has been out due to injury as well.
Pierce might need to go introduce himself to Rivers so that the cagy veteran can target him some in the second half.
