Who Will Sign Hunter Renfrow in Free Agency? Possible Landing Spots Include Cardinals, Ravens, Bills, Panthers, and Others

Free agent wide receiver Hunter Renfrow could have more interest in free agency than people realized. Here are a few potential landing spots.

Hunter Renfrow is still only 28 years old and could offer more to teams as a slot receiver. The one-time Pro Bowl selection is on the hunt for a new team, following his March 13 release from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Here are some potential fits for Renfrow as free agency continues.

The Arizona Cardinals could use another wide receiver after losing Hollywood Brown to the Kansas City Chiefs. Losing a speedy outside receiver, who could also play the slot, puts the team at a disadvantage.

That’s where Renfrow comes in — and he’s only a portion of the equation.

Pro Football Network’s Tony Catalina has the Cardinals selecting Ohio State All-American wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. If Harrison were to be drafted by Arizona, it would be an improved one-two punch for quarterback Kyler Murray to work with going forward.

“The question for the Cardinals will be about just how locked in on Marvin Harrison Jr. they are,” Catalina wrote. “If they are not smitten with the best wide receiver in the class, this could be the spot where a lot of movement can happen trade-wise. It is spot worth monitoring going forward, but they stay here in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft and take the best pure football player in the entire draft.”

Baltimore Looks Toward the Past To Go Forward

The Baltimore Ravens released wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on March 14. Baltimore currently has Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor, Rashod Bateman, and Tylan Wallace under contract, with Devin Duvernay recently signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team needs to add receiving help to aid the passing game.

While Renfrow hasn’t had over 400 yards in a season since 2021 — and missed a chunk of time in 2022 — he still could be valuable with a better quarterback. Lamar Jackson won his second MVP award this past season, and he’s by far the best passer that Renfrow would play with. Jackson also watched Renfrow from afar during their Atlantic Coast Conference days with Louisville and Clemson.

Just like the Cardinals, Baltimore may double-dip with a receiver in the draft and free agency. Catalina’s mock has the Ravens selecting Texas wideout Adonai Mitchell with the 30th selection of the draft.

“Adding Adonai Mitchell to this Lamar Jackson-led offense will serve the unit well,” Catalina wrote. “It’s a great situation for Mitchell, as he can join Zay Flowers to form a potent 1-2 punch for years to come.”

Inking a one-year deal for Renfrow could allow him to rehab his value, and he won’t stack up against the best cornerbacks as potentially the fifth receiver. It’s a similar situation to Agholor, who signed an extension with the Ravens.

Bills Could Use WR Depth, With or Without Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs’ social media activity has fueled trade speculation, but even if he isn’t going anywhere, Buffalo still needs to add to its receiving corps. Gabe Davis, who caught 45 passes for 746 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023, agreed to a three-year deal with the Jaguars on March 13.

The Bills have already added veteran WRs Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins in free agency, but adding a guy like Renfrow would give them really solid depth at the position.

Carolina Panthers Need All the Help They Can Get

Carolina had the worst passing offense in the NFL last season, gaining 2,741 yards through the air. The team’s 13 touchdown passes ranked 30th in the league. Not only did Frank Reich get fired before the season ended, but the team traded its 2024 first-round pick last year.

Dave Canales will have a tough time attempting to revive the Panthers. This looks like a job for Renfrow to step in, put his head down, and be a good veteran for the rest of the receiving corps. Whether Adam Thielen stays or departs in a trade, the Panthers need someone else on board to assist Bryce Young in reaching his potential.

Chicago Bears Could Use More Talent

The Chicago Bears could add Renfrow, simply from the foregone conclusion that the team will select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick. Whether it’s Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels (it most likely will be Williams), the Bears need to continue to surround their young QB with talent.

Talent could be added through the draft or free agency, as the Bears have $28,262,876 in space, per Over the Cap. That’ll be more than enough to sign Renfrow and add to a group that has D.J. Moore and now Keenan Allen. If Chicago adds an offensive lineman with their second first-round pick, it could shape up to be a nice offseason for the team.
