The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a spectacular Super Bowl-winning campaign. They execute in all phases of the game, have the league’s best running back, power in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and the newly minted Super Bowl MVP, Jalen Hurts, under center.
You’d think they’d be standing pat at quarterback, right? Wrong.
Roseman Gives His Take on Eagles Drafting QBs, Including McCord
Eagles GM Howie Roseman went on The Rich Eisen Show to explain his logic behind drafting two quarterbacks – Kyle McCord from Syracuse in the sixth round in 2025 and Tanner McKee from Stanford in the sixth round in 2023.
Roseman just jumped right into why McCord was so attractive to him. “Process. Really quick processor,” Roseman gushed. “The ball’s coming out really quickly with anticipation and accuracy. You know, leading passer in the NCAA. You just go down his games this year, and it’s like 340, 380, 390. I mean, it’s unbelievable. He’s throwing the ball all over the field.”
Roseman has been following McCord’s progress for a long time. “We know him really well. St. Joe’s prep graduate. Three-time state champion in high school. Number one recruit and five-star recruit in the country,” Roseman highlighted. “Goes to Ohio State. I think he had two career losses at Ohio State, you know, as a starter, and then goes to Syracuse and just performs really well there.”
Before he can be asked about it, he addresses the elephant in the room, the presence of Hurts. “So, obviously, we have the Super Bowl MVP as the starting quarterback. I feel extremely fortunate to have him,” Roseman explains. “We have a young quarterback room behind him. We drafted a kid in the sixth round, Tanner KcKee, from Stanford, who got a chance to play last year and played really well. So, you know, for us, again, we talk about the lines a lot. The quarterback position is extremely important as well. Getting young guys in here that can develop into the players we think they can be.”
After being drafted by the Eagles in 2023, McKee spent his rookie season developing behind established quarterbacks. He made his NFL debut in Week 17 of the 2024 season against the Dallas Cowboys, completing 3 of 4 passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns. In Week 18, he started against the New York Giants, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Eagles to a 20–13 victory.
McCord’s strengths align with the Eagles’ offensive scheme, which values quick decision-making and accurate passing. His presence allows the team to develop a potential future backup or trade asset, ensuring long-term stability at the quarterback position.
