Comparing PFN’s 2024 NFL Big Board to ESPN, The Athletic, PFF, and CBS Sports

With the 2024 NFL Draft behind us, let's look at Pro Football Network's hit rate with our big board rankings and pick projections.

NFL Draft coverage is an industry unto itself. There are numerous news outlets, experts, and mock drafters competing for your attention. So, why would you choose Pro Football Network?

Simply put: We’re as accurate as anyone in the business, if not more so.

With Draft Analyst Ian Cummings leading the charge, PFN matched or beat the rest of the industry in big-board accuracy and pick projections for the 2024 NFL Draft. Let’s get into the numbers.

Just How Accurate Were PFN’s Pre-Draft Rankings?

We’re going to compare PFN’s performance to that of other top outlets that produce high-quality draft coverage: ESPN, The Athletic, Pro Football Focus, and CBS.

Of the top 50 players on Cummings’ big board, 42 were drafted in the top 50, good for 82%. That’s a higher rate than The Athletic and CBS and tied with PFF. Only ESPN was higher (86%).

As for Cummings’ top-100 rankings, 81% were selected in the top 100, tied with The Athletic for the highest rate.

Finally, 231 of Cummings’ top 300 prospects heard their names called in the 2024 NFL Draft. That’s a hit rate of 87.5%, better than both PFF and CBS.

It’s not just about the percentages, though.

The first five receivers drafted went in order of Cummings’ big board. So, too, did the first two safeties and three of the first four tight ends. We could go on and on.

Cummings and the rest of the Pro Football Network and College Football Network scouting departments put in a ton of work, including watching thousands of hours of film, to provide draft analysis that was accurate, informative, and comprehensive. The results speak for themselves.

We’re on to 2025

No rest for the weary.

Is it too early to fire off hot takes about next year’s draft class? For sure.

Is it too early to offer informed analysis about which prospects could top draft boards in 2025? No way.

Cummings has already published his initial 2025 NFL Draft Big Board and first 2025 NFL Mock Draft. Obviously, both lists will evolve over the next 12 months.

Again, these lists are fluid. A lot can happen throughout a college football season, and with more and more players looking to capitalize on NIL (name, age, likeness) deals, it’s harder than ever to predict who’ll stay in college and who’ll enter the draft.

Nevertheless, when the dust settles, we expect our 2025 NFL Draft coverage to be even better than this year’s. In the meantime, head over to our Multi-User Mock Draft Simulator, which was updated to include next year’s projected top prospects and draft order.
