Mike Vrabel is about to coach on the sport’s biggest stage, but there’s plenty of curiosity around his life away from the sideline.
As the Patriots get set to face the Seahawks in Super Bowl 60, fans are asking more than just football questions. One of them centers on Vrabel’s family and his life off the field.
Who Is Mike Vrabel’s Wife?
Off the field, Vrabel’s most dependable teammate has always been his wife, Jen (Jennifer) Vrabel. The two met as student-athletes at Ohio State, where Jen first noticed Mike in class and famously tracked down his number through their professor. That connection turned into a relationship that followed Mike from college to the NFL…and now, to Super Bowl 60.
Over more than 25 years of marriage, Jen has remained a steady presence behind every major career turn. When Mike was introduced as the Tennessee Titans’ head coach in 2018, he made sure to acknowledge that foundation. “I love her to death,” Vrabel said at the time. “She’s been through a lot, and she understands this league.”
Vrabel again reflected on that support after returning to New England as the Patriots’ head coach. “I want to thank Jen, who’s been along for this ride for quite a while,” he said. “She’s challenged me, supported me, and helped me get to where I am.”
Jen, for her part, has spoken about how the two protect their limited downtime, calling their shared moments away from football something they “cherish.” While her role in Mike’s journey is unmistakable, their story doesn’t stop with the two of them. Much of what grounds Vrabel today also comes from being a father.
How Many Children Do Mike and Jen Have?
Mike and Jen are parents to two sons, Tyler and Carter, both of whom grew up immersed in sports and naturally gravitated toward athletic careers. Raised around NFL locker rooms and training facilities, the brothers were exposed early to the discipline and demands of their father’s profession.
“They’ve been around the NFL locker room since they’ve been born,” Mike once said.

The older son, Tyler Vrabel, was born in 2000 and followed his father into football, playing offensive line at Boston College. When he committed in 2017, Tyler made a point to publicly thank his parents and coaches for their support, writing that he was grateful to those who “supported me throughout my life” and helped shape him “on and off the field.”
After college, Tyler continued chasing his NFL dream, signing with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and later continuing his career at Tennessee Tech.
Carter Vrabel, the younger of the two, took a different path by pursuing baseball. He played as an infielder, with stops at Wabash Valley College and Volunteer State Community College before continuing at Tennessee Tech.
Mike has spoken candidly about missing Carter’s birth due to football obligations, admitting in a 2018 press conference, “I’m not proud to say this… she gave birth to Carter, I missed it, I was at practice.” Still, the Vrabels have always centered on support, competition, and shared ambition.
