The Green Bay Packers managed to get past the New York Giants 27-20 on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, but they received some tough news as running back Josh Jacobs suffered a knee injury.
When Jacobs was checked out after the game, though, an update on his status offered a little better news for Packers players and fans.
How Long Will Packers RB Josh Jacobs Be Out?
Jacobs finished the game with seven carries for 40 yards and no touchdowns. After the game, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter shared an update on Jacobs’ status.
“Josh Jacobs’ knee injury is not believed to be season-ending, but more tests will (be) done on Monday back in Green Bay, per @RobDemovsky,” Schefter wrote. “‘I think anytime a player, especially of his magnitude, but anytime a player doesn’t finish a game, you’re always concerned about the welfare of them,’ Packers coach Matt LaFleur said.”
On Monday, Packers reporter Bill Huber provided a positive update on Jacobs. “Josh Jacobs does not need surgery, according to a source,” Huber wrote on X. “He “possibly” will be out on Sunday against the Vikings.”
“Packers star RB Josh Jacobs’ knee is structurally sound, tests showed today, and no surgery is needed, sources tell me and Ian Rapoport,” wrote NFL insider Tom Pelissero on X. “The team will re-evaluate him towards the end of the week. At this point, Jacobs hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game vs. the Vikings.”
Moreover, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed on Monday that Jacobs has a chance of playing in Week 12. However, the more likely outcome is that the star running back will not play in the upcoming Week as Green Bay would like to keep him healthy for the rest of the season.
Emanuel Wilson, who stepped up after Jacobs’ injury, also had 40 yards rushing on 11 carries and scored one touchdown for the Packers.
According to the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics, Jacobs has an NFL RB Impact Score of 82.0, grading out to a B-. For this season, Jacobs has 169 carries for 648 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He also has 28 pass catches for 237 yards and no touchdowns.

Jacobs was a first-round pick (No. 24 overall) for the then-Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders) in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama. In his seven-season NFL career, Jacobs has four 1,000-yard rushing seasons to his credit. Overall, Jacobs has 1,768 carries in his career for 7,482 career yards and 72 rushing touchdowns.
He’s been a solid back throughout his career and is in his second season with Green Bay. With his current injury situation, the Packers can only hope that the news coming out on Sunday will lead to better news later this week. Green Bay will offer an update on Jacobs’ status once they have checked him out fully when the team returns home.
If Jacobs misses any time, though, it will hurt the Packers’ run game. So, LaFleur hopes for the best for his outstanding running back.
