Tyreek Hill has become synonymous with speed in the NFL. The wide receiver, who started his career with the Kansas City Chiefs and now plays for the Miami Dolphins, stands out not only for his sharp route running but also for an unmatched burst that compensates for his size and places him among the league’s elite receivers.
Recently, Hill broke his record in the 100-meter event at the Last Chance Sprint Series in Los Angeles, proving once again that even at 31 years old, he remains in top physical shape and is fully capable of returning to his 2022 and 2023 production levels after a down 2024 season with the Dolphins.
Defying Age, Tyreek Hill’s Speed Remains His Greatest Weapon
Hill entered the NFL in 2016 and initially stood out as a return specialist, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in his rookie year not as a receiver, but for his special teams impact. At that time, Hill wasn’t known for having the most reliable hands, but his game-breaking speed was already a major threat. He scored six touchdowns that season and quickly put the league on notice.
In the following years, Hill focused on refining his route running and technique, separating himself from the competition. Coaches often say: “You can’t teach speed,” and for the Dolphins star, that’s been his biggest advantage from day one.
In the 40-yard dash, Hill clocked an impressive 4.29 seconds, a time considered elite by NFL standards. Now, competing at the Last Chance Sprint Series in Los Angeles, he won the 100-meter event with a time of 10.25 seconds, breaking the personal best he set when he was 18 years old. After nine NFL seasons, Hill finally surpassed a milestone that had eluded him since before his pro career started.

When he was traded from the Chiefs to the Dolphins, many questioned whether Hill could maintain his elite status without quarterback Patrick Mahomes throwing passes and head coach Andy Reid designing plays. The answer came quickly, as Hill posted the best numbers of his career in 2022 and 2023, surpassing 1,700 receiving yards in both seasons, earning two first-team All-Pro selections, and recording 119 receptions each year.
On the field, Hill’s speed is just as noticeable on the football field as when he competes in track events. He reached a top speed of 22.01 mph during a touchdown against the New York Giants in Week 5 of the 2023 season. With the ball in his hands and open space to accelerate, catching Hill in the open field is nearly impossible. The Dolphins frequently take advantage of this by using short passes designed to let him run after the catch.

Despite his talents and undeniable speed, Hill’s relationship with the Dolphins hit some bumps this offseason. Right after the Week 18 game last season, he said goodbye to the team, then walked it back shortly after. Still, he dropped other hints suggesting he wanted out of Miami. However, Hill reported back to the team and now appears focused on the 2025 season with the Dolphins.
