‘Honored To Get an Invitation’ — Charles Barkley Makes Feelings Clear on Not Attending Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift’s Wedding

Charles Barkley explains why he skipped Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's wedding despite feeling grateful to receive a special invitation.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are officially married after exchanging vows during a star-studded ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3. The intimate celebration quickly became one of the biggest celebrity events of the year, bringing together an impressive mix of stars from the sports and entertainment worlds.

However, not every high-profile guest made the trip for the occasion. NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley revealed that he received an invitation to the wedding but ultimately decided not to attend.

Charles Barkley Revealed Why He Declined Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s Wedding

Barkley explained that his decision had nothing to do with Kelce or Swift personally. Instead, it came down to a long-standing personal rule.

“I don’t know Taylor that well, but I know Travis,” he said to Entertainment Tonight. “He’s one of my favorite people in the world, him and his brother, Jason, but I don’t go to weddings or funerals. That’s just a rule for myself.”

However, the invitation meant so much to the NBA legend despite staying away. “I wish them nothing but the best. They’re both tremendous people, and I was honored to get an invitation, to be honest with you, but I don’t do weddings or funerals.”

The longtime TNT analyst had earlier admitted during his appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic’s “Unfiltered with Ricky Bo and Bill Colarulo” how another factor also influenced his choice. Barkley joked that the event sounded like more attention than he wanted.

“I thought it was gonna be a crap show,” Barkley said, adding that’s just too much for him. “I just want to hang out and play golf, and I don’t want to dress up and all that other stuff. But I appreciate the invitation. It was pretty special.”

However, Barkley was not the only well-known guest who missed the celebration. According to The Berkshire Eagle, singer-songwriter James Taylor and his wife, Caroline Smedvig, also received invitations.

However, Taylor had already committed to performing with his All-Star Band during the annual Independence Day concert at Tanglewood’s Koussevitzky Music Shed, making the trip impossible.

American television host and producer Ryan Seacrest also revealed that he could not attend the wedding. Seacrest said work commitments prevented him from joining the celebration.

Despite that, the celebration reportedly welcomed an impressive mix of stars from music, film, and entertainment. The guest list included Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Gigi Hadid, Hugh Grant, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, Fergie, and Machine Gun Kelly.

And of course, the football world was there too because of Travis Kelce’s legacy with the Kansas City Chiefs. At their wedding, Kelce and Swift welcomed several familiar faces from the Chiefdom. Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, Chris Jones, Isiah Pacheco, and Trent McDuffie all attended the wedding.

Other NFL stars like George Kittle, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Tom Brady, Kyle Juszczyk, and Mike Vrabel were also spotted at the event. So the overall celebration was a star-studded event, despite some names failing to make it.
