Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce just had arguably the wedding of the century, as the power couple tied the knot at Madison Square Garden last Friday.
Plenty of celebrities and athletes were invited, including Charles Barkley. However, the NBA legend and ESPN broadcaster decided not to attend, and he explained why on Tuesday.
Why Didn’t Charles Barkley Attend Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding?
During his appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic’s “Unfiltered with Ricky Bo and Bill Colarulo,” Barkley gave an honest and rather humorous reason for why he opted not to attend Swift and Kelce’s wedding.
“I don’t go to weddings or funerals,” Barkley said. “But I did get an invite, and I politely declined because I thought it was going to be a crap show. I love Travis and Jason, and I have only met Taylor one time…
“But I said, ‘Hey, that is just too much.’ I just want to hang out and play golf, and I don’t want to dress up. But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special.”

Swift and Kelce have been together since 2023, and the couple got engaged last August. Given their individual popularities, with Swift being arguably the biggest pop star of the 21st century and Kelce being one of the best tight ends in NFL history, they quickly became a power couple, and their wedding guest list ended up being a who’s who of the pop culture and sports worlds.
Barkley is not only one of the best basketball players of all time but also one of the most popular sports-media broadcasters, so it’s not a huge surprise that he got an invite.
Kudos to Barkley for being honest. It makes sense that he didn’t attend, considering he doesn’t go out of his way to attend weddings. It sounds like he gets along primarily with the Kelce brothers, and it didn’t sound like his decision to skip the wedding was personal in the slightest.
It’s not like the event lacked celebrities. Not only were a ton of superstars and legends in attendance, but the wedding was also officiated by comedian and actor Adam Sandler. Surely, Travis and Taylor would have preferred for Barkley to attend, but it seems like their big day was very special and they got to celebrate with family, friends, and a ton of other public figures.
